Chiasson, Millan lead BU past Cats

In a game in which they were outshot by a 31-16 margin, the Terriers made the most of their opportunities, earning a 4-2 win over Vermont in Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington. Sophomore Alex Chiasson scored twice, including the game-winner on a third-period power play, while Max Nicastro’s blueline bomb and Corey Trivino’s empty-netter rounded out BU’s scoring. Matt Nieto, whose faceoff win set up Nicastro’s goal, had two assists. At the other end, Kieran Millan stood tall in goal, especially in the second period when BU was outshot, 10-3, while the Terriers killed all six Catamount power plays, limiting the hosts to eight power plays shots.

Chiasson, noting that the Terriers were fortunate to have won, acknowledged that BU needs better efforts moving forward:

Guys think everything’s going to come easy. We came here, and Kieran saved up the game. They outshot us by 15 shots. That’s not right at all. We’ve got to play harder and come to play every night. It’s after Christmas now. Every game’s a playoff game. We’ve got to figure it out.

Looking back
Matt Gilroy’s second pro season has been an uneven one with 17 healthy scratches, often just a matter of numbers rather than performance. The Wall Street Journal looks at the determination and perseverance that has helped the Rangers’ blueliner turn his season around.

Former All-American Colby Cohen registered his first points--a goal and an assist--for the Providence Bruins, since his trade from Colorado last month, in the P-Bruins 5-3 loss to Binghamton. Cohen had been out of the lineup with an injury for much of the time since the trade.

Last week, the Boston Globe's Nancy Marrapese-Burrell talked with Cohen and BU Coach Jack Parker about the blueliner's first pro season and his decision to leave BU following his junior season.

Looking forward
2011 recruit Matt O'Connor stopped 28 of 31 shots in Youngstown's 4-3 shootout loss to the NTDP U17s. 2013 recruit Matt Grzelcyk had three shots for the U17s.
