Terriers edged by UMass Lowell, 4-3

Terriers dropped their second one-goal game of the weekend, losing to Lowell 4-3. Despite a markedly better performance than Friday night, BU found itself behind 4-1 in the final period, largely due to a 5-on-3 goal for the RiverHawks and a shorthander early in the third.

BU rallied on a power-play goal by Evan Rodrigues (photo), his third marker of the weekend, and a pretty Cason Hohmann setup of Wade Megan’s 12th goal of the season.  Terriers pressed for the tying goal with several good opportunities. Most of the final six minutes were played shorthanded due to a major penalty to Garrett Noonan for spearing, which also earned him a DQ. With the Lowell goalie down after blocking a shot, Matt Grzelcyk fired the rebound of the cross bar. Ben Rosen, who assisted on Matt Lane’s first period goal, and Ahti Oksanen both clanged iron in the middle period and Matt Nieto nearly knotted the game at two apiece when his bullet shot just miss an open corner of the net. Matt O’Connor stopped 28 Lowell shots.

"Too little too late," said BU coach Jack Parker. "But competitiveness was back in a lot of guys, which is nice."
