The Portland Press Herald talked with BU freshman Nick Breed, who was recently added to the roster as an unrecruited walk-on. The Maine All-State forward was recommended to BU by his Cape Elizabeth coach, Bill Leblond, a defenseman on BU’s 1978 NCAA championship team.

Looking ahead
2013 recruit Brendan Collier’s first goal for the EJHL Valley Jr. Warriors was the game-winner in a 3-1 defeat of the Jersey Hitmen. The next night, Collier assisted on both Warrior goals in a 2-0 shutout of Baystate.

2013 recruit Robbie Baillargeon’s backhander gave Indiana a 1-0 lead en route to a 3-1 win against Waterloo in the USHL Fall Classic. He finished the tournament with four points, tied for his team’s scoring lead.

2014 recruit Jack Eichel registered two assists in the NTDP U17s’ 5-1 win against the LaSalle Vipers. In a rematch the next night, Eichel scored twice in the final two minutes of the first period –his second two-goal game of the year) and also added an assist to give the U17s a 4-1 lead, but the Vipers scored five third-period goals for a 9-7 win.

2014 recruit JJ Piccinich scored the game-winner for Youngstown in a 4-1 victory over Green Bay.                      Recap

Looking back
Former BU co-captain and U.S. Olympic hero Mike Eruzione was one of the hosts of this past Saturday’s “Celebration of BU” gala at Agganis Arena. The event, which featured The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and a performance by the BU Figure Skating Club, kicked off the Univesity’s most ambitious fundraising effort with a goal of raising $1 billion for financial aid, faculty support, research, and facility improvements.

Four ex-Terriers--Chris Bourque, Colby Cohen, Justin Courtinall and Dave Warsofsky--are on the training camp roster of the AHL Providence Bruins. Players take to the ice this Friday.

Women’s team
Led by co-captains Jill Cardella and Marie-Philip Poulin, the Terriers officially began practice yesterday. Sixth-ranked BU will play an exhibition game against McGiIl this Sunday before kicking off the season against BC on Oct. 5.
