Curry joins Beanpot HOF; Another hat trick for Bellows--UPDATED

The Daily Free Press hockey writers will conduct a pre-Beanpot Championship Game live chat tonight at 7 p.m.

The 2015 inductee to the Beanpot Hall of Fame was former BU All-American  and Hobey Baker Award Finalist John Curry. The netminder from Shorewood, Minnesota had a perfect 5-0 record in five Beanpot appearances and in the 2007 tournament earned both the MVP award and the Eberly Award for best GAA (0.48). Curry is currently playing for the AHL Iowa Wild, so former BU Head Coach Jack Parker stood in for BU’s all-time GAA leader at the induction.

The BU Alumni Association is sponsoring Watch Parties in 19 cities for Monday’s Beanpot Championship game against Northeastern. In Boston, there will be a pregame reception at The Greatest Bar near TD Garden. Details and reservations.

When senior assistant captain Evan Rodrigues reached the "100 career points" mark with his 3-goal, 1-assist effort vs. Lowell, he became the first Terrier to reach the century mark since former BU captain Chris Connolly did so during the 2011-12 season.

NESN’s coverage of Friday’s 5-2 win at Lowell includes a video preview of the Beanpot Final. The game, slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, will air on NESN and in Canada on TSN2. It’s also expected that the TSN feed will be live-streamed online at CricFree.

Looking back
The Boston Globe checked in with former Terrier Tom Noble, part of the goalie tandem that led BU to the 1995 national championship.  A standout at Catholic Memorial before arriving at BU, Noble was in the net for the Terriers in the title game, a 6-2 win (video) over Maine. The 1995 team will be honored on Saturday, Feb. 21, during BU’s home game with Notre Dame. Further details about the event will be posted here when they become available.

Charlie Coyle’s first-period deflection was the only goal scored in Minnesota’s 1-0 shutout of Colorado.

Women’s Team
#6/7 BU doubled up New Hampshire, 4-2, in Durham and improved to 18-7-2 overall and 13-4-0 in Hockey East. Goal scorers were senior captain Marie-Philip Poulin, junior Dakota Woodworth, sophomore Maddie Elia and freshman Victoria Bach (photo). Freshman Erin O’Neil made 21 saves to earn the win.

Bach’s goal was her 16th, tops for all NCAA Division 1 freshmen. It gave BU a 3-1 lead after one. The Wildcats cut the margin to one in the second period before Elia’s fourth of the season produced the final score.
