Brandvold rounds out Pandolfo's staff--UPDATED

Head Coach Jay Pandolfo has completed his coaching staff with the much-anticipated announcement of Kim Brandvold as an assistant coach. Joe Pereira came aboard last month as associate head coach. Brandvold and Pereira join holdovers Doug Friedman, director of hockey operations, goaltending coach Brian Daccord and video coach Jon Sherman.

Brandvold has spent the past seven seasons as a skating and skills coach with the Boston Bruins, working closely with Pandolfo who served as a development coach for two seasons, followed by five campaigns as an assistant to Head Coach Bruce Cassidy.

Said Pandolfo: “He is one of the most well-respected skills coaches in the game who has helped develop some of the elite skaters in professional hockey,” including NHL Jack Eichel (beginning at age 14), possibly the best skater ever at BU, and Bruins defensemen Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk.

Brandvold’s path to becoming an NHL skills coach began while working with veteran skills and skating coach Paul Vincent who is currently an instructor for the Florida Panthers. He later became a director and instructor for Dynamic Skating in North Andover.

The Oslo, Norway, native also was head coach at Central Catholic High School (Mass.) for two seasons after having been associate head coach for seven years. While at Central Catholic, he mentored former Terrier Jake Wise.

From 2002 through 2006, Brandvold was a defenseman at UMass Lowell where he was a teammate of Pandolfo’s cousin, Mark Pandolfo. He also represented his country three times in the World Junior Championships, winning gold in the 2000 U18 (B) event and bronze in the 2002 U20 (D1) tournament.

Looking ahead

2022 recruit Lane Hutson is projected as a late first round or early second round pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft. Central Scouting senior manager David Gregory says:

"Lane is so elusive and crafty with the puck. He invites pressure because he knows with his mobility and puck skills, he can avoid defenders and create offense. Despite being undersized he competes hard and is not afraid to play the game in traffic. High-end vision and an ability to process quickly allow him to see opportunities that other players don't."
