BU’s 2022-23 schedule has not yet been released, but we now know that the Terriers will open the season by hosting Bentley on Oct. 1. Two weeks later, BU travels to Michigan for a pair of games against the Wolverines.
The USNTDP has released its schedule of U18 games against NCAA teams, including a contest against the Terriers on Nov. 26 at Agganis Arena. There are three future Terriers on the U18s: forward Ryan Fine, defenseman Kai Javnviraiya and goalie Michael Chambre.

The Terrier roster is currently down to two goalies: juniors Drew Commesso and Vinny Duplessis. Last month, Ashton Abel transferred to a Canadian school, MacEwen University in Alberta. As a Terrier, he played in 16 games over three seasons with a 3-4-1 overall record. A highlight of Able's freshman season was a 5-0 shutout of Lowell.

Looking ahead
2023 recruit Gavin McCarthy has been selected to play for the US Under-18 Select Team that will compete in the Hlinksky-Gretzky Cup tournament next month in Red Deer, Alberta. The younger brother of senior assistant captain Case McCarthy, Gavin is a 6’1” right shot defenseman who played at USHL Muskegon last season (2-11-13 in 53 games) where he was a teammate of 2022 recruit Quinn Hutson. A year ago he was invited to the NTDP evaluation camp. He earned the spot on the Select squad after a strong performance in the USA Hockey Select 17 Development tournament.
While McCarthy is the sole Terrier recruit on the Select squad, there’s another member with BU connections. St. Mary’s goalie Calvin Vachon is the son of former Terrier Nick Vachon, who played for BU during the national finalist 1990-91 season and the 1991-92 campaign. His mostly minor-league professional career included one game with the New York Islanders, hence his inclusion on the wall of NHLers at Agganis Arena.
Nick also enjoyed some notoriety after starring in the short comedy film, “Clark, the Canadian Goalie.” Nick’s dad is former NHL goalie Rogatien Vachon.

A pair of former Eagles, Mike Powers and Jimmy Logue also joined in, hence the “& Friends."
