Pandolfo podcast; first pre-season rankings

Head Coach Jay Pandolfo was interviewed by College Hockey News editor Adam Wodon for CHN Insider's series of talks with new D1 hockey coaches. 


The discussion covered Pandolfo's selection as BU's 13th head coach, his transition from NHL player to coaching, his choice of Joe Pereira as associate head coach and his decision in 1995 to return for his senior year in which he became an All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist.

ESPN's John Buccigross posted his pre-season D1 rankings, slotting the Terriers at #10. Defending national champion Denver heads his top 16 list that includes five Hockey East teams: Northeastern #7, BU #10, Providence #12, UMass #12 and UConn #15.

 

►Happy 19th birthday to incoming freshman Jeremy Wilmer. The Rockville Center, NY, native, who is a 5'6" left-shot forward, led the USHL in scoring with a 25-73-98 regular season scoring line and another eight points in five playoff games. He earned first-team all-star honors and was named USHL Forward of the Year. 

Women's Team

Former Terrier captain Jesse Compher has been named to Team USA's roster for the IIHF World Championships set for Denmark beginning Aug. 25. Compher has been a Team USA participant four times including the 2019 gold medal squad.

Sophomore goalie Callie Shanahan will suit up today for Team USA in the three-game Collegiate Series against Canada in Calgary beginning today. A Hockey East All-Rookie selection last season, Shanahan played for the gold-medal US team in the 2020 IIHF U18 Championships.

Former BU standouts Marie-Philip Poulin and Victoria Bach will again skate for defending champion Canada at the IIHF World Championships. For Poulin, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, it will be her 10th appearance in the IIHF World Championships. Bach, who skated on a line with Poulin last year, is making her third appearance.
