After three non-conference games, the #9/11 Terriers will begin their Hockey East schedule against the opponent that ended their 2021-22 season. The #14/13 UConn Huskies invade Agganis Arena for a pair of games. Puck drop both tonight and Saturday is at 7 p.m. with the games streaming on ESPN+.
UConn arrives undefeated with a 5-0-1 record after playing Ohio State to a 0-0 tie and then dominating the Buckeyes, 6-1, last weekend. The Huskies have yielded just seven goals in six games, in part because they have killed all 23 opponent power plays. New faces in goal are Sophomore Logan Terness and freshman Arsenii Sergeev.
Connecticut’s offense is led by heralded freshman Matthew Wood (3-4-7), All-American and Hobey Baker Award nominee Ryan Tverberg (2-3-5), sophomore Chase Bradley (3-2-5) and former Terrier Ty Amonte (3-1-4). Senior Jake Flynn anchors the defense.
Senior Matt Brown, with goals in each of BU’s wins, leads the Terriers with a 2-3-5 scoring line. Senior captain Dom Fensore (G,3A) and freshman Ryan Green (2G,2A) follow while senior Jay O’Brien, junior Luke Tuch and freshmen Jeremy Wilmer, Quinn Hutson and Lane Hutson each have three points.
Junior goalie Vinny Duplessis, who stopped 31 shots in Sunday’s win in Ann Arbor, is expected to be in goal tonight. Coach Jay Pandolfo indicated that Drew Commesso, who hadn’t practiced through Thursday, remains day-to-day with a hamstring issue.
“Being at home right away, I think it’s gonna help us play a tough opponent who hasn’t lost a game yet,” the new BU coach said.
Regarding lessons learned in Michigan, he added, “I think it’s going to help our team moving forward here. UConn plays a very physical game, a very structured game, so our guys will be ready for it. And I think it was a good test for our freshmen last week to see that, you know, it’s tough every weekend, every opponent, you know, has a different challenge”
Pandolfo will look for insights about the Huskies from associate head coach Joe Pereira, who spent the past decade on the UConn coaching staff. “Obviously [he] knows how they play. He’s just trying to help all with any local adjustments we can make against some of the things they do.”

The weekly Inside BU Hockey interview show is back! On this week's episode, Bernie Corbett sits down with head coach Jay Pandolfo and associate head coach Joe Pereira. To close our first episode, Owen Gund catches up with junior netminder Vinny Duplessis.
►This week’s Boston Hockey Blog “Terrier Hockey Talk” guest is junior Dylan Peterson. The 2021 Beanpot MVP and the BHB team addressed the Michigan series, the culture shift under Coach Pandolfo and his staff, and Dylan's unusual background that took him from California to Taiwan to Alberta to Colorado to Ontario. Peterson pointed out an important change under the new coaching staff: that "Pandolfo does a good job of letting the older players take the reins [on accountability] as much as possible."

2024 or 2025 recruit Cole Hutson earned USHL Defenseman of the Week Honors.
Defenseman of the Week: Cole Hutson, USA Hockey NTDP (Barrington, Ill.)
Hutson and the NTDP split the weekend against Perron and the Steel, picking up the Program’s first Under-17 win in USHL action this season. The Saturday night 5-4 win was spurred largely by a three-assist (0-3-3) performance from Hutson as the Boston University commit picked up the primary assist on the powerplay early in the second, and an even strength helper in each of the second and third periods. The Barrington, Illinois native opened the weekend with an assist in Friday night’s matchup with Chicago. That assist marked Hutson’s first point of his USHL career after being held off the scoresheet in his first two League appearances. Cole is the younger brother of former USHL skaters Lane Hutson (USA Hockey NTDP, 2020-22) and Quinn Hutson (Muskegon Lumberjacks, 2020-22). Lane, a fellow defenseman, was a Second Round pick of the Montreal Canadiens (#62 overall) at the 2022 NHL Draft and Cole will try to beat the mark set by his brother when he’s eligible for the 2024 NHL Draft.
2023 recruit Anton Castro stopped all 21 shots to lead Fargo past Tri-City, 4-0. The 6'1" Minnesotan improved his record to 3-1 and his GAA to 1.39, while his save percentage for five games rose to .949.
2023 or 2024 recruit Macklin Celelbrini has been rostered with Canada Black for the World U17 Challenge, which begins on November 3 in Langley and Delta, British Columbia. The Vancouver native was tendered by the Chicago Steel last Spring and has a 4-4-8 line in six games.
2024 recruit Jack Pridham, in his second season with St. Andrew's College has a 3-11-14 line in his first 10 games. Last season, the right-shot forward from Ontario had 32 points in 45 games.
Looking back
The Penguins' 6-1 win against the Kings was the 300th victory for Mike Sullivan as Pittsburgh's head coach. The former Terrier captain led the Penguins to Stanley Cup titles in 2016 and 2017. Sullivan also coached the Boston Bruins from 2003-06 and has an NHL career record of 370-212-93.
Meanwhile, David Quinn won his first as Sharks head coach as San Jose defeated the Rangers, 3-2, in overtime at Madison Square Garden, site of the former Terrier captain’s first NHL head coaching job.
