#14 Terriers return to the ice for a home-and-home series with #10/11 UMass, beginning with tonight’s game at the Mullin Center in Amherst. Puck drop for the contest that will air on NESN and be streamed on ESPN+.
The 5-3-1 Minutemen were swept by Providence last weekend and have dropped three of their last four games. UMass had swept then-No. 1-Denver early in the season.
UMass’ top scorer is freshman Kenny Connors with 11 points. He also is tied for the team lead in goals with four. Sophomore defensemen Ryan Ufko and Scott Morrow and senior forward Reed Lebster each have nine points while Lucas Mercuri has seven. Sophomore Luke Pavicich has been in goal for four of the team’s five wins and ahs a 2.11 GAA.
UMass boasts the top power play in the country, clicking at a .435 rate (10 of 23). That portends a problem for BU, which is averaging 15 penalty a game. However, BU reversed that trend in the series with Lowell, taking six penalties in the first game and just two in the second.
Senior Matt Brown tops Terrier scorers with 10 points and four goals—including a pair of game-winners. Lane Hutson, who was named Hockey East Defender of the Month for October has a 3-5-8 scoring line, while captain Dom Fensore has a 1-5-6 line. Junior Drew Commesso returned from an injury to backstop the overtime win against Lowell.
“It’s been a long two weeks,” head coach Jay Pandolfo said in. “We’re certainly looking forward to getting back to some competition outside of playing against ourselves in practice.” More from Pandolfo in Thursday’s post.
