Despite a strong start that led to the game's first goal, BU was unable to find the back of the net again and fell to Notre Dame, 4-1, to begin a two-game series at the Compton Family Ice Arena. Ryan Greene's early goal was followed by a power-play goal and two even-strength tallies that gave the Fighting Irish a 3-1 lead after one period.

BU outshot Notre Dame 44-26 but was unable to solve goalie Ryan Bishel, who had 18 saves in the third period. Terriers failed to convert on eight man-advantage opportunities.

“I thought turnovers were an issue, I thought special teams right now is a really big issue for us,” Coach Jay Pandolfo said. “Listen, we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We’ve got an opportunity again to play this team tomorrow night and come back and try to right the ship here.”

An early bid by Macklin Celebrini and Luke Tuch was turned away, but at 4:44, perseverance paid off for BU. Bishel stopped attempts by Quinn Hutson and Jack Hughes, but a third attempt by Greene beat the Fighting Irish goalie.

That goal was matched during a Notre Dame power play when Drew Bavaro redirected a puck past BU's Matthieu Caron. Two even strength tallies gave the hosts a 3-1 lead after one period.

Freshman Danny Nelson added another power-play goal in the opening minutes of the second period to produce the final score.

Syracuse made it 3-3 four minutes into the third, but Lacy Martin restored the BU lead just 23 seconds later.
