#5 Terriers are back at Agganis Arena to host #11 Michigan for another pair of games matching “brand name” hockey schools. Tonight’s contest starts at 7 p.m. and will be live-streamed on ESPN+.
BU (4-1-0) suffered its first loss a week ago, a decisive 7-2 defeat at North Dakota, before regrouping to defeat the Fighting Hawks, 4-3 the next night.
The Terriers and Wolverines last met two years ago in Ann Arbor and, similar to the UND series, BU lost decidedly the first night, then rebounded to win the second game.
Since the 2009-10 season, BU is 5-5-0 against Michigan. Overall, the Maize & Blue lead the series, 18-14-0. BU won the first match-up, 4-3, in the Terriers first-ever Frozen Four appearance in 1950.
Reflecting on the series with North Dakota, Head Coach Jay Pandolfo said on his media call:
"It’s just consistency. That’s what we need. It can’t just be some periods, play well, [or] pockets of periods, play well. It has to be consistent over the course of 60 minutes. You’re playing against good teams, so they’re pushing, too, and there’s gonna be times when you’re back on your heels a little bit. Our overall consistency as a group has to be better.”
On Devin Kaplan:
“When he’s moving his feet, when he’s physical, when he’s getting to the net, he can be a huge factor for our team. He was a big reason why we won that game. He had a great weekend and has had a great week of practice and we’re going to see him getting better and better.”
On Jack Harvey:
"That was his best game of the year for us. He’s a really smart player. He’s clearly got a lot of skill. I hope he builds off of that."
On the Tom Willander-Sascha Boumedienne pair:
"They were excellent Saturday. When [Tom] is playing hard, playing his game, he's, to me, one of the best defensemen in college hockey. I thought Sascha had his best game. To perform the way he did in that environment is great to see. They took a step in the right direction Saturday against North Dakota."
On the challenge of Michigan:
"Michigan has a high-powered offense. They have a lot of skill. So you have to make sure that you are playing simple and direct. You don’t want to turn the puck over and make it an easy game for them."
Pandolfo also discussed the Wolverines with College Hockey Insider:
"They're a really talented team. High skill level, both on the back end and up front. We're going to have to be ready to go on Friday. They transition very well, they're very good in the offensive zone with a lot of movement. You have to be good at closing and ending plays."
Michigan (3-2-1), which edged the NTDP U18s last weekend, had previously played three series, splitting home series with both Minnesota State and St. Cloud State, and gaining a road win and a tie at Arizona State.
The Wolverine offense is paced by freshman Michael Hage (4-3-7), sophomore Garrett Schifsky (5-1-6) and junior T.J. Hughes (0-4-4). Senior Tyler Duke and grad student Jacob Truscott lead a veteran defense that has added grad student Tim Lovell, a transfer from Arizona State, and Hunter Hady, a one-time Terrier recruit.
Grad student Logan Stein (2.00 GAA, .925 save %) and freshman Cameron Korpi (2.28, .915) have split the goaltending duties, each making three starts.

Lane Hutson collected his sixth and seventh assists in Montreal's 6-3 loss to Washington.
Joel Farabee's shot late in the third period was redirected home to give the Flyers at 2-1 win over St. Louis. It was Farabee's fourth assist.
Women’s Team
Terriers (6-3-0)
will seek to extend their five-game winning streak when they begin a home-and-home
series against Providence (5-3-0) at Agganis Arena. Tonight’s game, the
front-end of another Agganis doubleheader, begins at 3 p.m. and will be live
streamed on ESPN+.
Freshman Lola Reid
has a conference-best 11 points (6G,5A), while captain Tamara Giaquinto has a 3-3-6
scoring line. Christina Vote and Riley Walsh each have five points. Callie
Shanahan (4-2-0) has crafted a gaudy 1.06 GAA and a .960 save percentage.
Providence defeated
Northeastern and lost to UConn in its last two outings.
