In a Beanpot classic, Terriers fall in overtime, 1-0

#7 Terriers dropped a heart-breaker to #3 BC, 1-0 in overtime, when the Eagles' Alex Tuch’s screened wrister eluded Sean Maguire, who had been brilliant all night. The senior netminder stopped 41 shots and was at his best in the first period, keeping BU in the game when BC fired 23 shots on goal.

For his dazzling performance in the tournament, Maguire was named Beanpot MVP. He also won the Eberly Award for top goaltending save percentage in the tournament, having turned aside 65 of 67 shots in two games, many in spectacular fashion. However, the trophy he wanted most went home with the Eagles.

Commenting on the game-winning goal, Maguire said: “I think if I saw all of it, I would’ve stopped it.”  He added:

“I wanted to win this really bad this year. This is my last attempt, and I gave it my best effort, but it definitely wasn’t the outcome I wanted.”
The outcome was the first 1-0 result in Beanpot Tournament history.
