Looking ahead

With the USHL regular season kicking off tonight, FloHockey.TV writer Jordan Alpine has previewed the teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences, noting players to watch on each team. Last season, Jeremy Wilmer led the USHL in points (98) and assists (73) while Quinn Hutson (73 points) and Ryan Greene (51 points) led their teams in scoring.

The Eastern Conference preview calls out three future Terriers: 2023 or 2024 recruit Mack Celebrini with the Chicago Steel and 2023 recruits Shane Lachance of the Youngstown Phantoms and Jack Musa of the Madison Capitols.

Macklin Celebrini (BU, 2024 Draft eligible): Arguably the top player in the 2024 NHL Draft class, the 16-year-old joins Chicago after putting up 117 points in 52 games at Shattuck St. Mary’s. Steel fans were spoiled last season getting to watch Adam Fantilli and Jackson Blake on a nightly basis. However, they might be in for an even bigger treat with Celebrini.

Shane Lachance (BU commit, Edmonton Oilers 2021 6th round pick - 186th overall). The Youngstown captain scored 11 goals in 55 games last season and had seven power-play goals, which ranked second on the team. The 6-foot-5 winger brings experience and leadership, which will be key on a young Youngstown roster.

Jack Musa (BU commit): On a team that lost a lot of its scoring punch, Musa does bring back 19 goals, which was tied for fourth on the Madison roster last season. Musa played in 57 regular-season games last year, finishing with a line of 19-16-35. He added another seven goals in 14 playoff games - including a pair of game-winners - which led Madison in the postseason.

Musa, a Florida native, whose brother Joe plays for Dartmouth, will find several familiar faces when he arrives on Commonwealth Avenue next September. In 2019-20, the left-shot forward skated for the North Jersey Avalanche 16U AAA along with current freshmen Lane Hutson and Devin Kaplan. Also on that Avs squad was goalie Anton Castro, a 2023 recruit now playing for Fargo.

The other Terrier recruits rostered in the USHL:  Jack Harvey (Chicago), Doug Grimes (Lincoln) Gavin McCarthy and Owen Keefe (Muskegon), Michael LaStarza (Sioux Falls), Nick Roukounakis (Tri-City) and Brandon Svoboda (Youngstown).
