Zink hat trick doubles up BU

A night after Friday’s tight defensive game, BU and Lowell found the net nine times with the host River Hawks scoring early and often for a 6-3 victory. The loss left BU still in fifth place in Hockey East, trailing Lowell by three points.

The RiverHawks opened the scoring midway through the first period on what would be the first of three Dylan Zink goals. BU responded less than two minutes later with Bobo Carpenter’s eighth goal, but Zink struck again with a slap shot from the point.

Things got worse in the second period as Lowell tallied three times, despite an 18-11 BU shot advantage. Zink completed his hat trick three minutes in prompting BU to pull Sean Maguire in favor of Connor LaCouvee and then Adam Chapie, who sat out Friday’s game due to a suspension, scored twice within nine seconds.  BU narrowed the margin to 5-2 late in the period on Oskar Andrén’s second goal.

AJ White extend the lead back to four goals late in the third period before Brandon Fortunato’s fifth goal of the season closed out the scoring.

BU Head Coach David Quinn: 

“Well, congratulate Lowell, great effort by them. Certainly disappointed with obviously the outcome and some of the reasons why we’re in the situation we’re in tonight.  It just seemed like every mistake we made ended up in the back of our net.”

►BU has four regular-season games remaining: a home-and-home with New Hampshire next weekend and then a pair of contests at Notre Dame.

Looking ahead

2018 recruits Jake Wise and Tyler Weiss (photo) each scored a goal in Team USA’s 4-1 win against Finland in the opening match of the Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. Weiss’s  goal  came on a penalty shot. (video)

Women’s Team

Terriers rallied from a 3-1 deficit after two periods to earn a 6-4 win over New Hampshire at Walter Brown Arena.  BU scored five times in the final period, including a shorthanded game-winner by sophomore Rebecca Leslie. Both Leslie and senior Rebecca Russo scored twice for BU, while freshman Sammy Davis and junior Alexis Crossley each scored once.  Sophomore goalie Erin O’Neil stopped 30 Wildcat shots.
