Remembering Mark Bavis; Podcast: Friendship Four Countdown; Colby Cohen and Colin Wilson; Celebrini & McCarthy at rookie camp

 

The Mark Bavis Leadership Foundation was created to allow deserving young men and women to enjoy opportunities and experiences similar to those which contributed to make Mark the person that he was. The Foundation provides annual grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to be used as specifically requested for school tuition, summer programs and other appropriate extracurricular activities. Through the kindness and generosity of so many people, The Mark Bavis Leadership Foundation raised more than $400,000 representing nearly one half of our million dollar goal.

                                  

►Terriers will cross the pond for Thanksgiving to participate in the Friendship Four tournament for the first time since 2018. They'll face conference foe Merrimack on Friday, Nov. 29 and either Harvard or Notre Dame the next day.  

Steve Thornton, MVP of BU's 1995 National Champions, was the driving force that created the the Friendship Four-- building on the Sister City agreement between Belfast and Boston--while serving as Director of Hockey Operations for the Belfast Giants. He's currently Group Head of Commercial and Hockey at The Odyssey Trust.

2025 recruit Mikhail Yegorov stopped 18 of 21 shots in Omaha's 3-1 loss to Sioux City.

Beijing-born Haoxi "Simon" Wang, a 6'5", left-shot defenseman in BU's 2026 recruit class, began his OJHL season with an assist in the opener for his new team, King Rebellion. Last season he skated for the Brantford 99ers, generating seven points in 28 games. Last season, Wang talked about the hockey path that took him from early skating in China to Canada in a video interview. 


 

 

 

  

Looking back

Terrier standout Colin Wilson joined Colby Cohen--a pair of BU All-Americans and 2009 national champions--on the current episode of Morning Cuppa Hockey discussing 11-year NHL center's career and post-career return to academia. Wilson, who was an NTDP teammate of Cohen and Kevin Shattenkirk, had 90 points (29G, 61A) in two seasons on Comm. Ave and was a Hobey Baker finalist in 2009. In the NHL, he had 286 points in 632 games for Nashville and Colorado. Wilson's segment begins at 17:00

 

Following his retirement, forced by injury, Wilson wrote a pair of enthusiastically-received articles for The Players Tribune about his personal struggles: one about obsessive compulsive disorder, and one about his alcohol addiction.

►Former Terrier Ethan Phillips has retired from hockey after playing a PG season with Western Michigan. His time at BU and at WMU was interrupted by a number of injuries. Phillips, who is entering the hospitality and sports field, "loved BU and will always be a Terrier at heart."

His breakaway goal against Cornell on March 25, 2023, delivered the NCAA Regional Championship to BU.
