Goalie of the future commits; Greene's 1st NHL goal

While defense of the Terrier goal is currently safe in the very able hands, stick and glove of Mikhail Yegorov, there's the matter of future netminding. The BU coaching staff addressed that need Wednesday, winning a commitment from USNTDP U18 goalie Brady Knowling. A dual U.S./Canadian citizen born in Toronto, the 6'5", 205 lb. Knowling is expected to come aboard in 2027 after playing a season of junior hockey. His OHL rights are owned by Saginaw. He has a 4-⭐️rating from NeutralZone.

Knowling's announcement video pays tribute to three previous NTDP goalies who played for BU--Rick DiPietro, Jake Oettinger and Drew Commesso--as well as 1980 U.S. Olympic goalie Jim Craig.

This past summer he helped lead the U.S. National U18 team to its first gold medal finish in the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in 30 years.

The Hockey News reported:

The last line of defense for the USA at the recently completed 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup was goaltender Brady Knowling, who played four of the team’s five games, compiling a goals-against average of 2.35 and a save percentage of .866.

The pressure was most on him in the third period, overtime and shootout of the semifinal against Canada, and then throughout the final against Sweden, which he spoke about in this video.

“We were the underdogs – no one expected us to win,” he added. “I think our team just wanted it. We just kind of gelled at training camp. We came out and played for 60 minutes really hard, and we got what we deserved.”

Following the tournament, The Hockey News' Ryan Kennedy listed Knowling as the only goalie in his preseason top 32 for the 2026 draft.

In five starts this season for the U18s including tilts against Notre Dame and Wisconsin, he has a 3.47 GAA and an .890 save percentage.

A year ago during a difficult season for the NTDP U17s, his GAA was 6.22 and his save percentage was .839

Prior to joining the NTDP, Knowling had a standout season with the North York Rangers U16AAA, prompting this profile in the NeutralZone's NCAA Prospects to Watchlist

Brady Knowling, G, North York Rangers, 4.25 Star Prospect, Signed with NTDP

Knowling is a talented goalie coming off a strong season in the GTHL playing against some of the best 2008’s in the world. Goalies are typically a longer development path and aren’t a coaches first call-ups but given he was drafted by Saginaw in the OHL who are coming off a Memorial Cup championship may speed up his clock. He’s got the size and the athleticism to immediately stand out but it’s his poise and composure, particularly in big games where he carried that Rangers team in the playoffs that make him a really sought after prospect and could earn some August 1st offers. Not to mention US NTDP has developed several quality starters in NCAA so the training and coaching he’ll be receiving over the next year or two will be of major value to an NCAA program and will further improve his marketability.

On the U18s, he is playing with two other future Terriers: 2026 recruit Luke Schairer and 2027 recruit Jamie Glance

Looking ahead

5-⭐️2027 recruit James Scantlebury is off to a great start with the Chicago Steel, who tendered him last Spring.

BU's other 5-⭐️recruit in the USHL, Tynan Lawrence, remains sidelined with an injury suffered in the Hlinka-Gretzky tournament.

The buzz surrounding 2026 recruit Yegor Shilov continues. The first-year QMJHL center scored his fifth goal in Victoriaville's 4-2 loss to Halifax and has 15 points in eight games.

2026 recruit Rian Chudzinski scored a pair of goals in Moncton's 7-2 rout of Val d'Or, earning first star honors. The former Dexter-Southfield standout right wing has five goals in five games.

Looking back

Ryan Greene scored his first NHL goal in the Blackhawks 8-3 thumping of St. Louis. Alex Vlasic recorded his first three-assist game, while Matt Grzelcyk added a helper for Chicago.  Our friend @BUHockeyStats reports: "Ryan Greene is the 72nd Terrier to score a goal in the NHL."

In case you missed this excellent piece on Jake Oettinger.
