Terriers received a commitment on Thursday from the son of former BU captain, All-American and NHLer Freddy Meyer IV, but it wasn’t the name fans have been expecting. The commitment came from Freddy Meyer, V., a late ’07 and a rising junior defenseman at The Rivers School in Weston, Mass., where his dad is head coach. PuckPreps' Ryan Sikes reports he'll join BU's 2027 recruit class.
Neutral Zone has given Meyer a 3.75-star rating.
His younger brother, center Carter Meyer, one of the top-ranked, U.S.-born ‘09s, who will play for the NTDP U17s this season, is expected to commit soon. However, that must wait until he completes his acceleration to being a junior in high school, an NCAA requirement for making a college commitment.
Freddy, a smaller (5’9”) left-shot defenseman like his dad, was River’s top-scoring blueliner last season with 22 points (2G,20A). He had 14 points as a freshman. Like Carter, he also played for the Boston Junior Eagles, coached by their dad with volunteer assistance from Jay Pandolfo, whose son Sam also skated for Rivers before his selection for the U17s.
Following Rivers’ upset win over #3 St. Mark’s (coached by Carl Corazzini, a BU teammate of the elder Meyer) last season, New England Hockey Journal wrote:
Meyer has been one of the biggest breakout defensemen in prep this season. He was vital to Rivers winning on Wednesday. He assisted on Rivers’ first goal with a nice shot from the point. His biggest play, however, came in the final seconds. St. Mark’s pulled BriseBois to get the extra man. MacPherson had the puck in the slot and an open shot, but Meyer slid across and blocked the shot down, negating the chance and eventually leading to Pandolfo’s goal. Meyer is also a rare case of a puck-moving, chance-taking defenseman who somehow doesn’t make vital mistakes.
Freddy was drafted by USHL Sioux City this past Spring. It’s uncertain whether he’ll return to Rivers for his junior season or head to the USHL. However, with Carter accelerating, there is a strong likelihood that both brothers will arrive on Agganis Way in September of 2027.
If that comes about, it will be the fourth time this century that brothers of differing ages have joined the Terriers at the same time. The others are Macklin & Aiden Celebrini, Lane & Quinn Hutson and Vinny & Victor Saponari, who skated on BU’s 2009 national champions.

2026 recruit Tynan Lawrence scored a power-play goal and added a power-play assist as Team Canada routed Hungary, 7-1, in a pre-tournament exhibition for the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup which begins Monday in Czechia. Lawrence is centering Canada’s top line.
NHL Network will air the Team USA games in the tournament. It remains to be seen if it will pick up TSN broadcasts of Team Canada’s games.
Lawrence collected USHL All-Rookie honors in 2024-25 with 54 points (25G, 29A) as a 16-year-old. He led Muskegon to the Clark Cup title with an 8-10-18 line in 14 playoff games, earning the MVP award.

After a great performance in the Clark Cup playoffs last year, he’s earned top billing and could be the guy down the middle for Canada at the Hlinka.

Last season, the 6’0” center from Fredricton, NB who turned 17 this past Sunday, also skated for Canada on the gold-medal winning squad at the World U17 Challenge with a 3-3-6 line in five games.
Lawrence also represented Canada in the 2024 Youth Olympics, producing a 2-2-4 scoring line in four games. Future BU teammate Braidy Wassilyn also skated for Team Canada while fellow recruit Luke Schairer suited up for Team USA. All three are projected to be first-round picks in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

Women's Team
Incoming freshman Anežka Čabelová will represent Czechia at the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour later this month in Switzerland. The left-shot forward generated 39 points last season for Kelowna 18U in Western Canada's CSSHL. She previously represented Czechia in the World U18s, helping her team win silver and being selected one of the team's top three skaters.
New England Hockey Journal reports that BU has commitments from four 2009s from Ontario:
The Terriers landed Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins forwards Sydney Bowness and Skyler Ruschpler, Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres defender Eve Ouellette and Quinte Red Devils goalie Lily Reid. Both Bowness and Ruschpler have been productive at the U18 levels in previous seasons. Ruschpler, in particular, had 91 points (63 goals) in 75 games with the Brampton Canadettes U18s last season. Reid went 11-4-1 with one shutout and a 2.38 goals-against average last season. Ouellette had 14 points (three goals) in 32 games on defense for Stoney Creek.
Ruschpler told Saultsports that “committing to BU to play for the Terriers was an easy decision in the end. I had done a lot of research on the school, its facilities, and its history. I had the opportunity to attend a hockey camp there just last weekend and it was amazing! It was everything I hoped it would be, the coaches were great, the rink and facilities were beautiful and the city itself was a place I could see myself spending my four years. When we had the zoom call with the staff a few days later, it only made me more sure about committing! I know this is a place where I could become the best version of myself.”
