Terriers shine at AAPG; Women face Guelph today at WBA

One current and three future Terriers made their presence felt during Thursday’s All American Prospects Game in Buffalo. Freshman Charlie McAvoy set up the game-winner for Team Plante in the third period with a strong rush into the offensive zone and around the net before snapping a pass onto the stick of Luke McInnis for a wrist shot past Team Roenick’s goalie. Minutes later, Kieffer Bellows completed the scoring at 6-4 with an empty netter, flipping the puck at his own blueline over a diving defender. Bellows had a game-high eight shots on goal, several of which were set up by his NTDP U18 linemate Clayton Keller. First-line center Keller clanged a shot off the post in the middle period. In that same period, a long headman pass by Chad Krys set up a go-ahead goal for Team Roenick, making the score 4-3. Krys displayed strong rushing and puck-handling skill throughout the game.

Matt Grainda, USA Amateur Scout of TheScout.ca  singled out the four Terriers as standouts during the game.

Commenting on the game-winner, Coach Derek Plante said:

“Great play, great play. Luke found a soft spot there, made a great shot, and McAvoy – he’s a heck of a player, wow! – he can skate and handle the puck, and it’s not surprising that he found (McInnis).”
