Looking back
Former Terrier Associate
Head Coach Blaise McDonald, now at the helm of Colby College, has been named
the 2017-18 AHCA Division II-III Men’s Coach of the Year. McDonald assisted
Jack Parker from 1990 to 1996, with the Terriers making the NCAA tournament
each season and winning the national championship in 1995. This year, he’s pursuing a
Division III national title with the Mules, who play St. Norbert’s tonight in
the NCAA semifinals at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid. After starting the
season at 10-10-0, Colby is 7-0-2 in the last nine and won the NESCAC
Tournament title despite being the #5 seed.
Colby has another
Terrier connection as legendary Terrier coach Jack Kelley led the Mules for six seasons
before spending a decade at BU. In his final season in Waterville,1961-62,
Colby went 19-6-2 , reaching the Division 1 ECAC tournament as a Division 2
team and made it to the tournament semifinals. Kelley would return to the Colby
bench for one more season, 1976-77 after leading BU to back-to-back NCAA
championships in 1971 and 1972 and guiding the New England Whalers to the first
WHA Avco Cup title in 1973.
