Recruits shine at WSI tournament

Looking ahead

At the World Selects Invitational 15U, 2022 recruit LD Lane Hutson led all players in assists with 15, helping Draft Day Black win the ‘04 division title. After setting up the game-winner in the semifinal, Hutson scored a goal and added an assist in the 5-3 title game win against East Coast Selects. His 16 points in nine games tied for third overall in scoring, earning him a spot on the tournament all-star team. 

Fellow 2022 recruit Devin Kaplan also played in the WSI 15U for ‘04s and scored four goals and added an assist in seven tournament games.  A third 2022 recruit, Ryan Greene, competed in the 15U division for ‘03s and led Hockey Essentials with six points in seven games.

In phase 1 of the USHL futures draft, Greene was selected third overall by Green Bay. Thayer’s Nick Roukoumakis, also a 2022 recruit, was selected in the fourth round in Dubuque. In the phase 2 draft, BU’s Mark Cheremeta was selected in the third round by Dubuque.  2020 recruit Brian Carrabes went in the fourth round to Sioux Falls and BU’s newest recruit, Quinn Hutson was picked by Waterloo in the sixth round.

Rivers School defenseman Cade Webber will play a junior season in the BCHL with the Penticton Vees before joining the Terriers in 2020.  The 6’6” blueliner played three seasons with the Red Wings, playing for former Terrier Shawn McEachern. This past season he had a 12-14-26 line in 29 games while also suiting up with the NTDP U18s in seven games.

2019 recruit Robert Mastrosimone scored a pair of goals for Chicago in last Friday’s 4-1 playoff win against Muskegon, earning first-star honors. He assisted on a goal the next night as the Steel eliminated the Lumberjacks, 3-2, to claim the USHL Eastern Conference Title.  Mastrosimone is tied for the league lead in playoff points with 13 in eight games. The HockeyWriters.com jumped Robert Mastrosimone from #54 to #32 on its draft board.

Beginning Friday, Chicago meets Western Conference champion Sioux Falls and 2019 recruit Ethan Phillips in a best-of-five series to crown the Clark Cup Champion. Phillips, who has missed six playoff games with an injury, has four points in three games.

Women’s Team

Assistant Coach Keady Norton has been promoted to Associate Head Coach on Brian Durocher’s staff.
