Draft day 2: seven future Terriers hear their names called

.
Day 2 of the NHL Entry draft saw seven Terrier recruits selected. 2nd round: Alex Vlasic (Chicago, #43) and Robert Mastrosimone (Detroit, #54). 3rd round: Domenick Fensore (Carolina #90). 4th round Ethan Phillips (Detroit #97), Cade Webber (Carolina #99) and Case McCarthy (New Jersey 118) 6th round Braden Doyle (Los Angeles #157). All are 2019 recruits except for Webber and Doyle, who arrive in 2020.

Combined with Trevor Zegas’ selection at #9 in the first round by Anaheim, it gave BU an NCAA-best total of eight for the 2019 draft, two more than North Dakota.

Adding recent transfer Jay O’Brien, a 2018 first-round pick by Philadelphia (#19 overall) who will be eligible in 2020, the Terriers have nine committed/drafted skaters.

Of the total of 71 drafted players committed to NCAA schools, 27 will play in Hockey East.

Phillips’ selection by the Red Wings sets up a reunion for the right wing with Filip Zadina, Detroit’s top pick in 2018. Zadina had billeted with Phillips and his family in Halifax while playing with the Mooseheads in 2017-18.

One of the biggest winners of the draft weekend is former Terrier and New Jersey head coach John Hynes. Not only did the Devils win the draft’s grand prize, top selection Jack Hughes, who broke Clayton Keller’s NTDP points record), they also traded for standout PK Subban. And drafted McCarthy.
