Terriers blank Concordia, 3-0, in exhibition game at WBA

Newly-arrived netminder Ashton Abel and senior Nico Lynch stopped a combined 26 shots to shut out Concordia in a 3-0 exhibition game win. The game, played at BU’s Walter Brown Arena, raised more than $10,000 to benefit The Travis Roy Foundation.

With upperclassmen Patrick Harper, Patrick Curry, David Farrance, Cam Crotty and Sam Tucker getting the night off, the Terrier freshmen dominated the score sheet. BU scored twice in the opening period on a short-handed tally by Ethan Phillips and a goal from Sam Stevens. Alex Vlasic’s short-handed goal into an empty net closed out the scoring.

Abel, a top goalie in the AJHL with the Okotoks Oilers, was efficient turning away 10 shots in the first two periods, but long-time back-up Lynch, making his first appearance this season, faced a heavier workload as the Stingers fired 16 shots—including six on power plays—in the final period. Lynch, who made several impressive saves—one coming on a breakaway—was mobbed by his teammates after the final whistle.

BU’s other midterm addition, Wilmer Skoog centered the top line and nearly bagged his first goal. Along with his goal, Stevens had a strong game in the faceoff circle, winning 13 of 15 draws.
