Virtual kickoff event; rules changes; trades and free agents


This Wednesday, the BU Men's Ice Hockey will conduct a 2020-21 Coach's Cabinet Virtual Kick-Off event and invites (by email) alumni, season ticket holders, donors, suite and premium seat holders to join at 12:30pm EST. Current members of the team and head coach Albie O'Connell will be in attendance.


Changes in the NCAA Hockey Rulebook for 2020-21 include new rules about face off infractions, penalties for actions along the boards, shootouts and penalty shots and more. LINK

Looking back 


Days after helping Tampa Bay win the Stanley Cup with two game-winners in the finals, Kevin Shattenkirk hit the free agent market and found a new home on the West Coast. The former BU All-American signed a 3-year contract with Anaheim valued at $11.7 million.  In the past regular season, Shattenkirk produced 34 points and had a +22 rating.

Free agent Evan Rodrigues has signed a one-year contract to return to the Penguins. Pittsburgh acquired him from Buffalo in late February and he played in seven games before the season ended prematurely. He was dealt to Toronto in August in a multi-player trade. In 199 NHL games, he has 27 goals and 45 assists.

Greenway’s two-year contract is valued at $4.2 million. Last season he generated 28 points (8-20=28), a plus-2 rating and 54 penalty minutes (PIM) in 67 games. He’ll be joined on the Wild’s roster by newly acquired center Nick Bonino.

Danny O’Regan has signed a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Golden Knights and has been assigned to the AHL Henderson Silver Knights. Last season he scored 38 points for the Ranger’s affiliate in Hartford. The previous season, he recorded 48 points for AHL Rochester. O’Regan has made 25 NHL starts with San Jose and Buffalo, recording one goal and four assists. As a Terrier, he scored 154 points (66G,88A) in 154 games and was named an All-American in 2015-16.

Former Terrier AJ Greer was acquired by the Islanders in a trade from the Avalanche. The 6’3” left wing, who had 32 points in 47 games for the AHL Colorado Eagles last season, has made 37 NHL starts in his five-year pro career. He skated two seasons as a Terrier, including the 2014-15 national finalist squad, scoring a key goal in the NCAA semifinal win against North Dakota.

Looking ahead

2021 recruit Charles-Alexis Legault pounced on a rebound to score his first BCHL goal in West Kelowna’s 5-4 loss to Salmon Arm in Okanagan Cup action on Friday. In Saturday’s 3-2 win against Salmon Arm, he assisted on the Warriors’ first goal and now has a 1-3-4 line in six games. The right-shot defenseman from Pierrefonds, Quebec, spent last season as the captain of the Lac St.-Louis Lions in the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League where he recorded 28 points in 29 games.
