Terriers ranked 2nd in Hockey East preseason poll; 10th in national polls


In the 2021-22 Hockey East preseason poll announced Monday, BU was picked to finish second by the conference’s head coaches. The Terriers, who received one first-place vote, trailed only defending national champion UMass, which had eight first-place votes. Boston College and Northeastern claimed the third and fourth rankings respectively.


Hockey East will hold its annual Media Day via Zoom Video conference on Wednesday.

Initial national polls also were revealed with the Terriers ranked at #10 in both the USCHO D1 poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. Four Hockey East schools were picked for the USCHO top 20: UMass #1, BC #7, BU #10 and Providence #13.  USA Today’s top 15 includes UMass #1, BC #8, BU #10 and Providence #14.

Looking ahead

2022 recruit Anton Castro gained his first regular-season USHL win as Fargo edged the NTDP U18s, 5-4 in overtime. The Mendota Heights, Minnesota native stopped 32 of 36 shots and held the U18s scoreless over the final 33 minutes.

2023 recruit Jack Harvey’s first period goal proved to be the game-winner as Chicago dominated Sioux Falls, 6-1. Harvey, who had a 9-8-17 line for the Steel last season, has goals in the first two games of the 2021-22 campaign

2023 recruit Gavin McCarthy scored his first USHL goal in Muskegon’s 5-2 loss to Sioux City. The right-shot defenseman, who is the younger brother of Case McCarthy, was tendered by the Lumberjacks after participating in last Spring's NTDP evaluation camp.

Former Terrier goalie Corinne Schroeder is playing for Quinnipiac this seson as a graduate transfer. In her first outing for the Bobcats--a 5-1 win against Maine--she was awarded a goal when the Black Bears put the puck into their own net with their goalie pulled on a delayed penalty.
