#7 North Dakota scored five opening-period goals--four in the first 11 minutes on just six shots--en route to a convincing 7-2 win over #3 BU at sold-out Englestad Arena.
The Fighting Hawks connected on two early power-play opportunities with Jackson Kunz and Mac Swanson finding the net. After two more tallies, Coach Jay Pandolfo replace Mathieu Caron with Max Lacroix, who yielded the fifth goal of the period.
“It’s been a bit of a common theme for us in our first three games, not being ready to play from the start,” Pandolfo said. “We got out-battled, out-competed, you name it, from start to finish.” [scroll down to the post-game link for more Pandolfo comments]
BU outshot North Dakota, 12-10, in a scoreless second period.
After Kunz scored his second goal forty seconds into the third period, BU finally got on the board when Matt Copponi carried the puck deep into the Fighting Hawks end, maneuvering around two defenders, then centered a pass to Tristan Amonte in the slot for a one-timer. It was his first goal since January 7, 2022. Tom Willander had the second assist.

BU scored again four minutes later on a power-play goal. Quinn Hutson passed to Cole Hutson at the points. He dashed to the high slot then set up Quinn for a one-timer from the left dot that beat T.J. Semptimphelter. Shane Lachance, who began the play from behind the UND net, picked up the secondary assist.
