Hutson and Boisvert enthused for 2025-26 season; Bonino and Cohen reunite on Morning Cuppa Hockey

Cole Hutson, last season’s national rookie of the year, First Team All-American and Beanpot MVP, spoke with NHL.com Senior Writer Tom Gulitti about his goals for the upcoming season and when he might turn pro with the Capitals.

Although Lane played two seasons at BU before he turned pro in 2024, Cole said it’s not set in stone that he will do the same.

“A big reason I’m going back to school, I want to win a national championship,” Cole said. “I want to graduate school, make my mom happy. I’m in no rush to go anyplace. You can’t get worse playing college hockey. I’m just going to enjoy the moment, and if it’s two or three more years, I’m perfectly fine with that.”

Washington selected Hutson in the second round (#43 overall) of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Sacha Boisvert hits the transfer portal

Likewise, sophomore transfer (from UND) Sascha Boisvert is pumped for the 2025-26 season. The 2024 Blackhawks first-round pick and NCHC Rookie of the Year told NHL.com that he’s ready for the next chapter in his hockey career.

“I’m really excited to go to Boston. It’s closer to home, about a six-hour drive, so the family’s able to come more,” Boisvert, a native of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, said at Blackhawks development camp in July.

“It’s a great program (with a) great coach, Jay Pandolfo. We’re going to have a great team so it’s going to be exciting.”

The 6’2” left-shot center, who was a teammate of Gavin McCarthy at USHL Muskegon, produced an 18-14-32 scoring line at North Dakota and was a unanimous pick to the NCHC All-Rookie Team.

Looking back

Nick Bonino joined his Terrier teammate Colby Cohen on Wednesday’s edition of Morning Cuppa Hockey. Their discussion focused on the final years of his professional career, including a title-winning season in Slovenia, and his next stop as an assistant to new Penguins Head Coach Dan Muse.

Bonino and Cohen, as BU fans will never forget, scored the last-minute tying goal and the overtime game-winner in the 2009 national championship in Washington, D.C.

Now 37, Bonino is very possibly the only player to win a high school state championship (Farmington, CT, in 2005 with a mind-boggling 91 points in 24 games) a New England Prep title (Avon Old Farms in 2007), a Beanpot championship (BU 2009), an NCAA title (BU in 2009, 50 points) and two Stanley Cup championships (Pittsburgh in 2016 & 2017).

Terriers continue to introduce the newcomers to the team. Coming aboard as a graduate transfer is goalie Michelle Pasiechnyk, who completed an outstanding four-year career at Clarkson where she had a 1.58 GAA, .935 SV%, and 21 shutouts. In 2023-24, she was named NCAA D1 Goalie of the Year and a Second Team All-American with a 1.34 GAA and a .945 save percentage. Pasiechnyk had stepped away from hockey after her senior season with the Golden Knights and now returns as a Terrier.
