Early departures at the World U18s

For those hoping to see the US and Canada—with BU prospects and a current Terrier—repeat their Olympic rivalry at the World U18s, it's not going to happen as both teams were bounced from the tournament in the quarterfinals.

Canada fell to Sweden, 4-2. A slick Tynan Lawrence assist brought Canada even late in the second period before Sweden pulled away. Lawrence finished the tournament with a 2-4-6 scoring line in five games. He also had a hat trick in a pre-tournament exhibition game.

Team USA was knocked out of the tournament by Latvia, 5-2. 2027 recruit Jamie Glance who rang a shot off the post in the first period and had five total shots, was the U.S. player of the game. He had a goal and four assists in the tournament. 2027 recruit Carter Meyer also had a 1-4-5 scoring line while Luke Schairer, who had a strong tournament, tied for the points lead among defenders with four assists. Goalie Brady Knowling, who absorbed the loss, gave up three goals with Latvia adding a pair of empty-net tallies.

Looking ahead

2026 recruit Caleb Malhotra scored a goal and dished out three assists to lead Brantford to a 6-1 win over Barrie, giving the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead in their conference final series. Malhotra leads Brantford with 23 points (11G,12A) in 12 post-season games.

This past Monday, Malhotra was named OHL Rookie of the Week after contributing a pair of goals and four assists in the first three games of the playoff series with Barrie. Malhotra claimed the rookie honor for a third time in five weeks of playoff action. He received rookie honors three times in the regular season, en route to producing 84 points (29G,55A).

2026 recruit Viktor Norringer and Carter Amico each contributed an assist as Muskegon defeated Dubuque, 6-1, to clinch the conference semifinal series. Norringer leads the Lumberjacks in playoff scoring with 3-5-8 in seven games. He had 24 goals and 49 points in the regular season.

2026 recruit Haoxi Wang is skating for Team China in the Division 1B IIHF Men’s World Championships in Shenzhen, China. He scored a power play goal in China’s opening game loss to South Korea.   He had six goals and 20 assists this season, playing for Oshawa and later for Niagara.

2027 recruit Rian Chudzinski scored his third playoff goal in Moncton's 3-2 loss to Blainville-Boisbriand as the Armada knotted the series at two apiece. Chudzinski has 13 points in 12 playoff games, after ringing up a 21-17-38 line in the regular season.

Looking back

Macklin Celebrini has indicated that he will play for Canada in the IIHF Men’s World Championships in Switzerland beginning May 15. He skated for Canada in the Winter Olympic games in Milan this winter, winning a silver medal.

Cole Hutson, recently seen in Boston with Celebrini at the Boston Marathon, has expressed interest in suiting up for Team USA. He represented the USA twice in the World Juniors and previously twice in World U18s.

Lane Hutson assisted on the game-winner as Montreal edged Tampa Bay, 3-2, to take a 3-2 lead in their playoff series. He has a 2-3-5 scoring line in five playoff games.

Jack Eichel assisted on a pair of Golden Knights’ tallies as Vegas defeated Utah, 5-4, to take a 3-1 lead in their playoff series. Clayton Keller had a pair of helpers for the Mammoth.
