►Boston Hockey Blog RECAP: BU secures plenty of firsts in 4-0 win over Alaska Fairbanks
“We knew [Alaska] sells out for blocking shots a lot, so I used that to my advantage. I kind of baited him, waited for the opening, and took the shot and prayed for the best,” Haoxi Wang said.
The goal (video) was the final piece of what was a stellar opening weekend for Wang, whose partnership with senior defenseman Aiden Celebrini has established itself as BU’s most consistent defensive pair through the first two games of the season. Throughout the Terriers’ opening series, both Wang and Celebrini created offense from the blue line, broke up plays defensively and were stalwarts on the Terriers’ penalty kill, which killed off all three of Alaska’s power-play opportunities on Saturday.
“They had not just a good weekend, they had an outstanding weekend,” head coach Jay Pandolfo said about the pair. “Both guys were outstanding on both ends of the ice.

USCHO: "I wasn't even aware, to be honest with you," said Pandolfo, who played his college hockey at BU from 1992-96. "It feels good. I just want to see these guys have success. I was fortunate to play here, obviously a long time ago, for four years, and had a lot of success. That's what I want to see these guys have."

This is a tremendous play by Glance on the secondary IMO. Waited for defenders to bite and created automatic 2-on-1 for Joseph below the dots. #2027NHLDraft

Women's Team
As the Terriers transition from being a senior heavy squad to much younger one, Boston Hockey Blog dives in to the eight freshmen and two transfers who have joined the program.
“We’re starting a lot slower in terms of how we play, and taking a lot more time to coach the foundation that serves our identity and the bigger concepts and systems that we play under,” head coach Tara Watchorn said.

Not Terrier Hockey but…..
Hockey ice is white because it's painted. Rinks freeze a thin base layer, spray it with white paint, then seal the paint under more ice. The league has done this since the 1940s so fans could follow a black puck. Then someone pointed a projector at it. It turns out hockey had accidentally built the best movie screen in sports. Matte white paint under a sheet of clear ice diffuses light almost perfectly, and the whole surface is dead flat. It's also enormous. An NHL rink is 200 feet by 85, about 17,000 square feet. A standard IMAX screen is around 4,000. A show like this takes roughly a dozen 20,000-lumen projectors hung in the rafters, aimed nearly straight down so the beams don't glare off the ice or bleed into the seats. Software warps and blends all of them into one picture that fits the rink's rounded corners pixel for pixel. The Devils put about $1 million into their rig a decade ago, and arenas across the league copied it. San Jose was always going to push this furthest. The Sharks have run the most famous entrance in hockey since the 90s, a 17-foot shark head lowered from the rafters with fog pouring out of its mouth and eyes glowing red. For thirty years the players skated out of the tank. Now the whole rink is the tank, and the sharks circling under their skates are just light bouncing off paint that was only ever there to make a puck visible.
