It may be offseason, but most of the Terrier hockey team can be found on the ice together on Tuesday nights, keeping their skating and timing sharp by playing 50-minute non-checking games in the Hub City Pro Hockey Summer League at the Bridgewater Ice Arena. The current and incoming BU players are joined by recent grads such as Sean Sullivan, Tom Morrow, Kevin Schaeffer, Ken Roche and Ryan Weston.
Five games into the league season, junior forward Jason Lawrence is the top scorer with 11 goals and 10 assists. Sullivan, back from Coyotes rookie camp, is third with 3-11-14. Lawrence’s team, which includes, Roche, Brian Strait, Luke Popko and Zach Cohen, as well as several skaters from “that school up the block,” is last in the standings. However a nearly all-Terrier team has the best record as of today. Its roster features forwards Peter MacArthur, Boomer Ewing, Brandon Yip, Chris Higgins, Brian McGuirk, Steve Smolinsky, Craig Sanders, Weston, and Joe Pereira; defensemen Matt Gilroy, Kevin Kielt, Sullivan, Morrow, Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen; and goalies Karson Gillespie and Brett Bennett. These two teams meet tonight and we’ve dispatched a correspondent to report on the game. One more Terrier connection: Boomer Ewing’s father, Ben, owns the BIA facility
