Game Day: BU vs. BC at TD Garden...for the Beanpot Championship



#7 Terriers meet #3 BC tonight in the championship game of the 64thBeanpot Tournament. Game time at TD Garden is set for 7:30. The contest will air on NESN and TSN.  BU moved up two spots to #7 in the USCHO Weekly Poll, while the Eagles moved up one spot.

Terriers, seeking to defend the Beanpot title won a year ago, last played BC in the championship game in 2012, losing 3-2 in overtime. The Commonwealth Avenue rivals have met 21 times previously in the championship game with BU holding a 12-9 edge.

The game also marks be the 270th meeting in the series that began in 1917-18 with BU holding a 130-121-18 lead. The BU Game Notes (link below) includes the scores of all 269 games plus the scores of all BU Beanpot games.

Last month BC defeated BU, 5-3, at Conte Forum and the next night at Agganis, the teams tied, 1-1. Since that loss, BU is unbeaten in its last six games, while the Eagles are 6-0-3 in their last nine.

Freshman Colin White leads BC with 35 points, while junior Ryan Fitzgerald has 31. Junior goalie Thatcher Demko has a 1.71 GAA and a .937 save percentage.

Senior Danny O’Regan (photo) tops BU’s scorers with 32 points, while seniors Ahti Oksanen and Matt Lane each have 14 goals. Senior Sean Maguire has started the past 10 games with a .956 save percentage in those contests.

UPDATE: Freshman Charlie McAvoy, who missed the UMass game with an injury, returns to the line-up tonight.

Freshman Jordan Greenway, who scored a pair of goals against UMass, earned Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors. O'Regan, who scored a goal and assisted on Oskar Andren's game-winner, made the Weekly Top Performers list.

Looking ahead 
2019 recruit Joel Farabee scored twice and added an assist as Selects Academy 16U defeated the Jersey Hitmen, 5-0, to complete a weekend sweep. On Saturday, the forward had a goal and an assist in a 6-3 win, bringing his team-leading points total to 42 points (15G,27A) in 22 games. With a 21-1-0 record, Selects lead the USPHL 16U South Division.

2017 recruit Brady Tkachuk assisted on the game-winning goal as the U17s defeated the Czech Republic in a pre-tournament game for the Five Nations event that begins tomorrow. Team USA is the host team for the event that also includes teams from Finland, Russia and Sweden.
