Another forward for 2017? For the future, a high-octane forward commits to BU

While not confirmed, it appears BU may be adding an experienced forward to the roster for next season. RPI left-shot forward Drew Melanson has earned his degree in three years and will be enrolled in BU graduate school. The 5-11, 170 lb. Melanson recently tweeted his intention to become a Terrier, which would be as a graduate transfer.

An all-state forward at Delbarton School in New Jersey before spending two seasons in the USHL, he scored 44 points in 57 regular-season games for Waterloo in 2013-14 and added 11 more in 12 playoff games. At RPI, he led the team in scoring as a freshman with 20 points and added another 23 in his past two seasons. BU was among the programs that recruited Melanson before he committed to RPI.  Stay tuned.

Looking ahead
BU has received a commitment from a second elite 2002 birthdate forward from Canada. Josh Lawrence, a dynamic 5-9, 165 lb., right-shot from Moncton, New Brunswick, joins CIHA’s Dylan Peterson, who gave BU his verbal last October.

Lawrence was the second leading scorer (7-9-16) at the recent World Selects Invitational U15 event in Philadelphia, earning A ratings from several sources including SB Nation’s Jeff Cox:

Josh Lawrence, #11 West Coast Selects, 1/28/02, Shoots Right, 5-9/165, Moncton, New Brunswick – He’s just a natural scorer who can do it all offensively. He plays a complete game and is very smart out there. He sees what might open up and he reads plays well. He’s gritty and competes for everything. He’s an offensive player who is willing to backcheck and force turnovers. He’s a good skater with silky hands.

In 2015-16, Lawrence had 41 goals and 20 assists in 30 games for the Fredericton Canadiens Bantam AAA, after having played Bantam as an underager the previous year.  Last season, he played up a year for the Selects Hockey Academy 16U team, scoring 11 points in 9 USPHL games.

2018 recruit Jake Wise talked with USA Hockey about his challenging U17 season and advice received from former Terrier Jack Eichel.  A two-season standout at Central Catholic HS, Wise had eight goals and 17 assists for the U17s, good for fourth best on the squad.  He also had three points in eight games with the U18s.

Looking back
Colin Wilson and the Nashville Predators secured their first-ever Stanley Cup finals appearance, eliminating Anaheim in six games. The former All-American has four points in the playoffs, including a key goal in the Predators' game five win. Two other former Terriers, assistant GM Paul Fenton and Chief Amateur Scout Jeff Kealty are longtime members of the Nashville staff.

Nick Bonino had a pair of assists—within just over two minutes--in Pittsburgh’s 7-0 win against Ottawa in game five of the Eastern Conference finals.  On the first, his wrist shot grazed teammate Bryan Rust on the way into the net. Ottawa won game six Tuesday night to force a seventh game in Pittsburgh on Thursday.
