Terrier-Gopher hockey wars; Cole Hutson sets U17 record

Tim Rappleye, who authored "Jack Parker's Wiseguys, has penned a terrific look back at the BU-Minnesota rivalry in NCAA tournament games with emphasis on the 1976 semi-final marred by a brawl in the opening minutes, two game disqualifications and bad feelings that weren't soothed until the Miracle on Ice.

The Terriers and Gophers have met in the semifinal four times with each team winning twice. In their lone national championship game match-up, BU claimed the 1971 title with a 4-2 win.

Looking ahead

With a pair of assists in the NTDP U18's 10-1 win against Muskegon, 2024 recruit Cole Hutson is now the all-time leader in points by an NTDP defenseman in his U17 season. With 52 points (9G,43A), he also stands in fifth place for most points by a defenseman in any NTDP season. He's one point behind Quinn Hughes and 11 points behind his brother, Lane Hutson.

Looking back

Alex Vlasic, who has spent the season in the AHL with Rockford, made his first NHL appearance in the Blackhawks' 4-1 loss to Dallas. Jake Oettinger made 17 saves to gain his 32nd win and lower his GAA to 2.47.

Vlasic played nearly 20 minutes, the most of the seven blueliners who dressed for Chicago. He had two shots on goal and his plus/minus was zero.  A 2019 second-round draft pick, he played 15 games for the Blackhawks last Spring after BU's 2021-22 season ended, giving up his final year of college eligibility.
