The series between the schools, which began with a 7-3 BU win in the championship game of the 1970 Boston Arena Christmas Tournament, stands at 6-8-2 in favor of the Irish. Last season, the teams split a pair of games in South Bend with Notre Dame winning, 4-1, following by an 8-2 Terrier win.

The Fighting Irish, who defeated Harvard yesterday, have a 6-9-0 overall record and are 1-7-0 in the Big Ten. Those records are deceptive because six of those losses came in a gauntlet of games in November against #1 Michigan State, #6 Michigan and #3 Minnesota.
Notre Dame Head Coach Jeff Jackson, in his 20th year announced in June that this will be his final season. His teams historically have played a tight-checking style that will require BU to win 50-50s in the defensive zone and play the "simple, direct" game that Head Coach Jay Pandolfo preaches and teaches.
Sophomore Cole Knuble leads the Irish offense with a 7-9-16 line, followed by grad student Justin Janicke and grad transfer Blake Biondi, each with 13 points, and Danny Nelson with 10 (6G). On defense Axel Kumlin has 10 points and Paul Fischer has nine.
Goalie Owen Say, who stopped shots in the win over Harvard, has a 2.65 GAA and a .927 save percentage.

More from yesterday's win
Advanced analytics from BU Hockey Stats show that the Terriers converted six of their 15 scoring opportunities while the Warriors scored on two of their scoring opportunities. Merrimack's edge in O-zone possession reflects the five BU penalties and Warrior power plays.
