#3 Terriers dropped a 5-4 decision in overtime to the #11 Michigan Wolverines, who swept the weekend series at a packed Agganis Arena. BU held and lost three one-goal leads including twice in the third period before Michigan scored three minutes into overtime.
Terriers carried a lead into the third period both nights and were unable to close out either game. The loss leaves BU with a 4-3-0 record.
"It’s finding ways to do little things that make a difference to win hockey games,” Head Coach Jay Pandolfo said post-game. “If a team’s down in the third, they’re always going to push, especially by one goal. You’ve got to find a way to withstand that push.”
He added, "I'm still seeing too many of the same mistakes happening with our group ... just way too many turnovers in tough spots."
Terrier goal-scorers were co-captain Shane Lachance, Matt Copponi, Alex Zetterberg and Devin Kaplan.
BU dominated the opening period with a 15-5 shot edge and a 17-4 edge on draws, but it was the visitors who opened the scoring. Mathieu Caron defended Nick Moldenhauer's shot from the right circle, but the rebound went right to Evan Werner who buried it at 11:43.

Three
minutes later BU knotted the score. Kamil Bednarik won an offensive
zone draw and Quinn Hutson tipped the puck to Lachance. He took two
strides toward the slot and rifled the puck past Cameron Korpi's blocker
for his second goal.

BU took its first lead on a play that began with 17 seconds remaining. Zetterberg lofted a puck out of the Terrier defensive zone and across the UM blueline. Cole Eiserman won a puck battle and dished to trailing Copponi. The senior transfer from Merrimack deked a defenseman and Korpi before firing home a backhander at 19:54 for his first goal as a Terrier.

That lead lasted just 37 seconds as Jackson Hallum scored from just outside the crease in the opening minute of the second period.
Copponi nearly scored again when he was sent in alone by Devin Kaplan, but Korpi made the save.
Co-captain Ryan Greene forced a turnover in the Michigan zone and Quinn Hutson
controlled the puck. His pass to Zetterberg was a bit behind the
freshman but he pulled the puck between his legs and roofed it for his
third goal and a 3-2 Terrier lead.

Second period shots were 9-8 Michigan.
The BU lead held until midway through the third period when Kienan Draper connected for a 3-3 tie. But the Terriers responded quickly. Sascha Boumedienne slid the puck to Tom Willander in the right circle. His cross-ice pass went to a wide-open Kaplan, who rapped home his second goal putting BU back in front, 4-3.

Moments later a BU penalty sent Michigan to the power play. They moved the puck quickly, before BU could set up its kill, and Hallum fired his second goal past Caron for a 4-4 tie.
In overtime, Copponi had another golden opportunity when he stick-handled through two defenders but his shot was deflected into the netting. Caron made a series of saves before a Michigan 2-on-1 rush produced Hallum's third goal of the game.
