Pandolfo Media Call; Big Night for Jack; Women face Wildcats & Crusaders

Some highlights of Thursday's Media Call with Coach Jay Pandolfo:

Re Mikhail Yegorov: "I thought his performance was excellent for his first weekend. We were pretty good in front of him, too. We didn’t give up a ton (of shots). The biggest thing for him is the mindset. He worked on being focus everyday in practice, being focused for every opportunity to play."

"Max Lacroix will play in the exhibition. Max needs to get some game action. He deserves to get this game."

"We planned to take another day off but our guys wanted to skate. We focused on some of the  things we did well and some of the things didn’t do well, like the power play. Today was a special teams day, working on the penalty kill and the power play."

Re Simon Wang: "He’s very mobile for a guy that size. You can see the way he moves across the blueline. Obviously that goal was a pretty high-end play. He’s very good at joining the rush. I liked his overall game."

Re Wang-Aiden Celebrini pair: "They bring pucks out well together. Through the neutral zone, through transition, they support each other well. Aiden was excellent."

Re the team's 19 blocked shots: "The commitment I saw from the group, our willingness to help a teammate out after a mistake was really good. Everyone was doing it (blocking shots). Happy that our guys have that mindset."

Re Tynan Lawrence: “He’s still the youngest player on our team, just turned 18 in August. He was probably our best forward over the weekend against Alaska and the stats back it up. He has his confidence. He knows what the expectations are and how he can have success at this level. Number one thing is his motor. He never stops moving. Makes plays all over the ice."

Looking ahead

The Daily Faceoff’s Early Top 40 for the 2027 Entry Draft has #3 Carter Meyer, #28 Jamie Glance and #35 James Scantlebury. DFO’s Steven Ellis suggests Meyer could be the first center taken.

Scantlebury, has received an invitation from NHL Central Scouting to the QMJHL Prospects Game on Oct. 28.  2028 recruit goalie Andrei Nikolayev, who plays for Victoriaville, also was selected for the Prospects Game. Those two join previously announced Meyer and Glance on the roster.

Looking back

Oettinger has his second straight shutout in the Stars' victory over the Sabres – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Jake Oettinger stopped 26 shots to record his second consecutive shutout—and 18th of his career—as Dallas defeated Buffalo, 4-0. Three games into the season, his GAA is 0.67.

Jack Eichel scored unassisted—making it look so easy—and added three assists in the Golden Knights’ 6-2 win against the Kraken on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Eichel scored the third-period tying goal on a penalty shot and added an assist as Vegas rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3 in a shootout.

Clayton Keller scored a power play goal in Utah's 5-3 win over the Devils. The Mammoth's captain has seven points in four games.

Sean Maguire, a Powell River, BC., native, was at BU from 2012-2016. However, he missed his entire junior season--2014-15 when the Terriers reached the NCAA title game--due to a concussion suffered off the ice. He returned the following season and posted a career-best 2.41 GAA and a .920 save percentage.

A Penguins draft pick, he spent two seasons in the minor leagues, primarily with ECHL Wheeling and AHL Wilkes Barre/Scranton. After retiring, Maguire was a goalie coach for the BCHL Powell River Kings, whom he had played for in juniors, then at St. Anselm's before moving on to New Hampshire.

You’ll see that Tristan Amonte and Vinny Purpur are teammates on the Savannah Ghost Pirates while Case McCarthy is in Norway with the Stavenger Oilers.

Women's Team

Terrier are back East after a respectable showing in their series at #1 Wisconsin, but they remain on the road. BU begins conference play Friday at New Hampshire before heading to Worcester for a Saturday match-up with Holy Cross.

The Wildcats are 2-2-0 after last weekend's sweep of LIU, whose pre-season exhibition with BU was cancelled due to the Nor'easter.

Lo Lachappelle had the Terriers lone goal in the Wisconsin series that saw Mari Pietersen and Sydney Fogu split the goaltending duties.
