Eichel, Bonino skate in IIHF World Championships



The USA Men’s team prepares for the World Championships in the Czech Republic with an exhibition game today against Austria. (Livestream at 2:45 p.m. ET) Jack Eichel and former Terrier Nick Bonino are on the U.S. roster.

NBCSN will televise Team USA’s games beginning with the May 1 matchup with Finland (schedule).

Eichel talked with The Hockey News about donning the USA uniform again and the achievements of the Terriers’ season.

BU Athletics has updated its online records pages with achievements from the 2014-15 season. Among them:
-Eichel’s 71 points is the fifth highest total for a season
-Evan Rodrigues and Danny O’Regan joining the career 100-point club with 121 and 110 respectively.
-Matt O’Connor’s season save percentage— .927, third best—and career save percentage— .921, second best. Also tied for second most wins in a season with 25.

Media reports and tweets indicate that O'Connor, who has visited Ottawa, Vancouver and Edmonton, will meet with the New York Rangers tomorrow. A signing decision is expected in the near future.


Looking ahead
2015 recruit Charlie McAvoy assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime as Team USA defeated Finland in the gold-medal game at the World U18 Championships. Team USA successfully defended the title won in 2014 with a squad that included Eichel, Brandon Fortunato and John MacLeod.

McAvoy finished the tournament with four points, while fellow 2015 recruit Jordan Greenway had seven points and 2016 recruit Clayton Keller had nine points.
