Cason Hohmann
(photo) joins Jack Eichel and Evan Rodrigues in the Sabres organization, signing a one-year contract
with Buffalo’s AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. The Arlington, Texas, native scored 31
points last season, including five goals in eight playoff games. At the annual post-season banquet, Hohmann received the Friends Award as Unsung Hero and the Iron Terrier Award (strength & conditioning), and was co-recipient of the Bennett McInnis Spirit Award. He finished his four years
at BU with 92 points.
Rising sophomores
Brien Diffley (photo) and J.J. Piccinich have been invited to Toronto Maple Leafs
development camp in Toronto beginning July 7. Piccinich, was a 2014 Leafs’ draft choice.
Also headed to a development camp is returning goalie Sean Maguire, who was
drafted by Pittsburgh in 2012 (4th round), and rising senior Matt
Lane, who will attend the Vancouver camp in Shawnigan, B.C., beginning today.

Doyle Sommerby will attend another Islanders mini-camp, to be held for the first time at Brooklyn's Barclay Center.

Looking ahead
2017 recruits
Patrick Harper and Hank Crone have been named to the US
Select U18 squad that will compete next month in the Ivan
Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The team was
selected from the top performers at the just completed USA Hockey’s Select 17
camp concluded yesterday. Harper, who led Avon Old Farms in scoring last
season, was co-points-leader
at the Select 17 with 10 points (6G, 4A), including a goal and an assist in
yesterday’s tournament all-star game.
Crone, who
skated for USHL Omaha last season, scored three points in the tournament and also
played in the all-star game. After
another season at Avon, Harper is expected to join Crone in Omaha for the
2016-17 season.
Former Terrier
standout, and U.S. Olympian Clark Donatelli, currently head coach of the ECHL
Wheeling Nailers, will be an assistant coach for Team USA.

John
McCarthy has returned to San Jose, signing a one-year
deal with the Sharks. Between 2009 and 2014, the co-captain of BU’s 2009
NCAA champions, made 87 NHL starts for the Sharks. He signed a free-agent deal
with the Blues last summer. Then, last season, after St. Louis loaned McCarthy
to the Worcester Sharks, he became that franchise’s all-time scoring
leader.
