A “significant increase in Covid-19 cases" at the University of Vermont has led that school to delay the start of men’s and women’s hockey until December 18. BU had been scheduled to open its season with a pair of games against the Catamounts in Burlington on December 4 & 5. With those games officially postponed, Terriers will begin their season the following weekend with a home-and-home series against UMass—December 11 at Walter Brown Arena and December 12 in Amherst.

The Beanpot, arguably the premier in-season college hockey tournament, will not be played this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Beanpot committee has announced. BU has won the Beanpot a record 30 times since its inception in 1952.
BU play-by-play announcer Bernie Corbett, who has called the past 35 Beanpot Tournaments, told College Hockey News that the news was "sobering," adding:
"My heart kind of sank a little bit. You might as well tell me there is no Santa Claus ... which I just found out last year. Now Christmas isn't coming. This really hits hard. It would've been my 50th since I was allowed to stay up late to go to the Garden on a school night."

Looking back
The December 11 opener at WBA, now home of the women’s team, will be the first regular-season game for the men at that venue since January 2, 2005, a 2-1 loss to top-ranked Minnesota (video). The following night the Terriers officially opened Agganis Arena, flipping the script on the Gophers and earning a 2-1 win (video) on goals by Pete MacArthur and Brad Zancanaro who tallied BU’s only goal at WBA the previous night.
Former Terrier assistant captain Matt Lane has signed on with the Tulsa Oilers, the ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. The Rochester, N.Y. native who skated for the NTDP prior to his years at BU, played in Italy for Ritton/Renon in the Alps Hockey League last season, putting up 60 points in 44 games. After BU where he had a 33-36-69 career line, Lane played in the ECHL and AHL, including stops in Rochester, Atlanta and Worcester.

2022 recruit Ryan Greene scored a goal and added an assist in Green Bay’s 5-4 win against Youngstown.
2021 recruit Tristan Amonte scored his fifth goal as Penticton defeated Vernon, 3-2 in overtime, in the Okanagan Cup championship game. Fellow recruit Quinn Hutson finished the tournament tied for the goal scoring lead with 10 goals in 14 games.
