2022-23 Terrier Hockey Season Preview; Hockey East recruit class rankings

With the kickoff of BU Hockey's 101st campaign just days away, THFB presents a 40-minute discussion previewing the season. I was joined by longtime Voice of Terrier Hockey Bernie Corbett and New York Times writer and co-author of The Making of a Miracle Neal Boudette to look at the new coaching staff, returning players, freshmen and the schedule. Note: You may need to turn up the volume.

BU on ESPN+

This season, all Terrier home games—both men’s and women’s teams—and all games played at Hockey East rinks as well as conference playoffs—will be streamed live on ESPN+. BU Athletics has provided a Fan Guide to ESPN+ Broadcast Viewing

Grand Forks Herald hockey writer Brad Schlossman's pre-season national rankings have the Terriers slotted at #9. Quinnipiac is his pick for #1 and he has eight BU opponents in his top 20: #5 Notre Dame, #7 Northeastern, #8 Harvard, #11 Michigan, #13 Providence, #14 UMass Lowell, #18 Cornell, #19 UMass. If BU faces Arizona State in the Desert Classic, it will be nine opponents.

Looking ahead

NeutralZone has released its rankings of Hockey East 2022-23 recruit classes. Its system rates players at up to 5 stars and then uses an algorithm.  BU is first in average stars per recruit, but fourth in total points due to its small class size.

Puck Preps offers a ranking of 2006 birthdate recruit classes for which commitments began August 1. With six high-end signings, highlighted by heralded center Macklin Celelbrini, BU is the leader by a wide margin.

Looking back

A.J. Greer, who signed a two-year contract with the Bruins this summer, took a big step toward securing a bottom-six spot for the Bs on Tuesday with a two-goal effort including the game-winner against the Rangers. A two-season Terrier, Greer scored a key goal (video) in the 2015 Frozen Four semifinal win against North Dakota.

David Quinn on being ranked the 29th most-handsome coach in the NHL: "It means I'm not last! It's what coaching does to you, look at me." Mike Sullivan was ranked 26th.
