Terriers have added another high-end ’06 recruit to their pipeline, receiving a commitment from Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep forward Will Zellers. A 5’9” left-shot from Maple Grove, Minn., he made the jump to the Midwest powerhouse’s top-level squad after putting up a 37-42-79 line in 61 games for SSM’s15U AAA team last season. Zellers, a skilled playmaker with finishing ability, is one of three ‘06s to make the school’s 18U roster.

A strong performance in the USA Hockey Select 16 Development Camp earned Zellers a spot on the US Select U17 team that played in the Five Nations Cup in Colorado Springs last month. In four games, he led all players in points (9) and goals (7).
In May, he was selected #18 overall in the USHL Futures Draft by Green Bay.

Zellers is the sixth highly regarded ’06 to commit to BU in the past two months, joining Owen Keefe, Kamil Bednarek, Cole Hutson, Cal Hughes, and Macklin Celebrini, who last season also made the jump from SSM 15U to the Prep 18U squad and led the team in scoring.
►Freshman defenseman Lane Hutson has been named to New England Hockey Journal’s pre-season All-Rookie team. He’s joined by forwards Cutter Gauthier (BC), Cam Lund (NU) and Matthew Wood (UConn), defenseman Hunter McDonald (NU) and goalie Tyler Muszelik.

Looking back
Former Terrier standout and NHL star Tony Amonte has stepped down as head coach at Thayer Academy and will become a pro scout for the Florida Panthers. He scored 126 points in 79 games as a Terrier helping to lead BU to the 1990 Frozen Four and the 1991 national championship game. His son Tristan Amonte is a Terrier sophomore, while brother Ty Amonte will conclude his college career at UConn.

Coach Brian Durocher also found recruiting success in Minnesota, getting a commitment from Stillwater H.S. junior defenseman Addy Finn for 2024-25. Following her sophomore season she participated in the USA Hockey Select 15 Development Camp, leading all defensemen with seven points in five games.
