Future Terriers hit the ice

The HockeyWriters.com has ranked the top 10 goalie prospects and junior assistant captain Drew Commesso is #8. The other two collegiate netminders on the list are Northeastern’s Devon Levi, #5, and Michigan’s Erik Portillo, #9.

Looking ahead

The top junior A leagues have begun exhibition games and several future Terriers have already seen action.

A USHL match-up between Chicago and Muskegon featured four future Terriers: 2023 recruit Jack Harvey and 2024 recruit Macklin Celebrini for the Steel and 2023 recruit Gavin McCarthy (photo) and 2024 recruit Owen Keefe for the Lumberjack. Chicago won, 4-3, but McCarthy scored a pair of goals, assisted on the first by his blueline partner, Keefe. Harvey had an assist for the Steel.

Lumberjacks Head Coach Mike Hamilton said, "Carts (McCarthy) looked good tonight. Not only with the goals he scored, but I thought he also made some great plays with puck possession, and I think he was clearly our best player tonight."

2023 recruit Nick Roukounakis will spend his final season in juniors with USHL Tri-City which selected the 6’2”, 225 lb., left wing in the 2022 USHL Phase 2 draft. He was with BCHL West Kelowna last season but injuries limited him to 28 games with a 9-6-15 scoring line. He added eight points in 14 playoff games. Roukounakis also made five starts for the NTDP U18s.

Previously, the Pembroke, Massachusetts native played three seasons at Thayer Academy under Coach Tony Amonte, generating 27 points in 26 games as a sophomore. In his first USHL start, he scored a goal in the Storm’s 6-3 exhibition game win over Waterloo.

The Storm also drafted 2024 recruit Jack Pridham in the second round of the Phase II draft, but the 6’2” right wing from Stouffville, Ontario will remain with Saint Andrews College this season.

2023 recruit Anton Castro stopped nine of 10 shots, playing half the game in Fargo’s 3-1 win against Waterloo. The Mendota Heights, Minnesota native split last season between the Force and NAHL Aberdeen,  and was particularly effective in the NAHL playoffs with a 2.63 GAA, a .920 save percentage and a 4-1-0 record.

In the AJHL, 2023 recruit Aiden Celebrini scored the first goal for the Brooks Bandits in an 8-5 win against Drumheller.

In Fall pre-prep action, 2024 recruit Cal Hughes scored a goal in the Rhode Island Saints' 7-2 win against Boston Hockey Academy. Hughes will play for Mount St. Charles 16U when prep season begins.
