Polls & Rankings--Twos all around
Following their 2-2 tie and 5-2 win against Providence, the Terriers are back at #2 in the USCHO D1 Hockey Poll. BC, which completed a sweep of UMass, remains on top and claimed all 50 first-place votes. Maine, which dropped a pair to New Hampshire, slipped to #8. Providence fell to #12 and UMass to #14, while the Wildcats' sweep boosted them up three slots to #16.
Likewise, BU also sits in the #2 spot in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live Poll with top-ranked BC garnering all 34 first-place votes. The top 10 in this poll are exactly the same as the USCHO poll.
In John Buccigross’s weekly D1 ranking, he moved the Terriers up two slots from #4 to #2. The Everything College Hockey ranking made it unanimous: #2 for the Terriers.
With North Dakota being swept by Colorado College, the Terriers jump to the #2 spot in the all-important Pairwise Rankings. Other Hockey East teams in the top 20: #1 BC, #7 Maine, #12 Providence, #15 UMass, #17 New Hampshire and #20 Northeastern. That's seven of the top 20.
BU remains at #2 in the College Hockey News Power Rankings and is #1 in strength of schedule.

SNL (Saturday Night Leftovers)
SNL leads off with Mark Linenhan’s Terrier Takeaway
Big 4 point weekend for Terriers.
Friday night at Providence… as tough of a place to play as there is… managed to earn a point. Friars get into their 1-2-2 set up in a smaller rink.. and constantly have 3 players waiting for you at blue line.
Zabaneh showed his speed on PK, which was great all weekend (kudos to Joe Pereira) culminating with 6 for 6 on kills Saturday night.
Saturday.. give Jay credit for line shakeup. Lachance with Macklin paid instant dividends with Shane getting 2 ..on top of his big body presence in taking away Svedback’s eyes and creating more space for Mack and Harvey.
Luke Tuch did a similar great job on Willander’s goal.
Lane Hutson did Lane Hutson things on his highlight-reel goal.
Caron was steady all weekend and continues to make big saves when needed. .
Terriers’ speed and winning one-on-one battles along the walls were a big part of the response on a night where it was needed. Team showed great compete and. despite the struggles of the past few weeks. is now number 2 in Pairwise.

@BUHockeyStats points out that this was the first time both BU special teams were perfect in a game since the March 12, 2022 game against UConn. Unfortunately, that game, a 3-1 loss in the Hockey East quarterfinals, ended the Terriers’ season.

Shane LaChance is one of only five Freshmen (Eichel, L. Hutson, M. Celebrini, O'Regan) to record at least 4 multi-goal games since 2002-03, only Celebrini reached that milestone faster than LaChance's 30 games

With Saturday’s win, BU’s record is 20-8-2 and Jay Pandolfo joins Jack Parker as the only Terrier head coaches to win 20 games in each of their first two full seasons in charge.
The nation’s leader is blocked shots, Cade Webber, had six of BU’s 19 blocks on Saturday, while Ty Gallagher, who saw substantial ice time, blocked four shots.
BU had won its six games against Providence prior to Friday’s tie and now has an eight-game unbeaten streak (7-0-1) dating back to January of 2021.

Looking ahead
A pair of goals by 2025 recruit Jack Murtagh and one by fellow recruit Conrad Fondrk was all the scoring for the U17s, who dropped a 6-3 decision to Muskegon. 2026 recruit Carter Amico assisted on Murtagh's first. Murtagh and Fondrk each have 14 goals and are tied for third on the U17. They're also tied for third in points with 32, one point ahead of fellow recruit Charlie Trethewey.

In the ninth road of the shootout, Charlie McAvoy beat his Terrier teammate Jake Oettinger with a backhander to give the Bruins a 4-3 win over the stars. McAvoy also assisted on two of the Bruins' goals in regulation.
The Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame has announced its 2024 inductees, which include Tim Regan, who along with Dan Brady, comprised the goaltending tandem for BU’s back-to-back NCAA championships in 1971 and 1972. For the 28-2-1 ’71 team, Tim's GAA of 1.77 and .929 save percentage remain the top single-season marks in program history.
The following season, Regan was loaned to the US Olympic Team that won Silver in Sapporo. Head coach Jack Kelley had to call him home before the Olympics were over when Brady was injured. Regan was in the net for the 1972 Frozen Four in Boston where the Terriers defeated Wisconsin, 4-1, in the semifinal and then shut out Cornell, 4-0, to repeat as champions. After giving up an early goal to the Badgers, he was perfect the rest of the way stopping 26 shots. The next night he turned aside 39 Big Red shots, earning the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award.
Regan, who finished his three-year varsity career with a 32-7-1 record, later played three years of professional hockey and also represented the U.S. in the World Championships. He was inducted into the BU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.
