Rollout of roster newcomers begins; Regan inducted into RI Hockey Hall of Fame

A 6'0" right-shot center, Matt Copponi led the Warriors in scoring last season with 32 points (7G,25A) despite missing five games due to injuries. In 2022-23, he scored 29 points (14G,15G). His 14th goal was the 2-OT game-winner for the Warriors in the Hockey East tournament semifinal.

A 200-foot forward who is strong in the defensive end, he could slot in this season behind Ryan Greene at center.

A seventh-round draft choice of Edmonton in 2023, Copponi joined Terrier co-captain Shane Lachance at Oilers development camp this summer.

From the Elite Prospects 2023 draft guide:

For Copponi, it's all about being in the right place at the right time, supporting the puck low in the defensive zone and below the hashmarks in the offensive third. Always offering himself as an outlet to his defenceman in transition. Probing for and finding shooting opportunities off-puck, sneaking in and out of his opponents' blind spots to pop open for scoring chances.
Prior to Merrimack, Copponi played at Dexter Southfield for Coach Dan Donato, netting 20 goals in 2019-20.

Was named a recipient of the 2021 Boston Bruins John Carlton Memorial Trophy, which is given to the outstanding female and male student-athletes in Massachusetts high school or junior hockey

Goalie Tim Regan, Most Outstanding Player of the 1972 Frozen Four and an Olympic Silver medalist, was inducted into the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame over the weekend.

A three-time All-State selection at LaSalle Academy prior to heading to BU, Regan holds the Terrier single-season records for lowest GAA (1.77) and save percentage (.929), set during the team's 28-2-1 championship season.

A member of BU's first two national championship squads, he yielded just one goal in the two 1972 NCAA tournament games. He held Wisconsin to one score in a 4-1 semifinal and then blanked Cornell, 4-0, in the final, stopping all 39 Big Red shots. (See bio below).

He was inducted into the BU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993.
