UPDATED: ERod returns to Agganis with the Cup; DHO Friedman's new gig; a look at the recruit pipeline

Today is Evan Rodrigues’s day with the Stanley Cup and he brought to silver trophy to Agganis Arena. The Florida Panthers forward, who just turned 31, returned to his alma mater with his family. It was the Cup's first appearance at Agganis since Pittsburgh Head Coach Mike Sullivan brought it to BU following the Penguins’ first of two titles under his leadership.

Following a 39-point regular season, Rodrigues added 15 points (7G,8A) in 24 playoff games in the Panthers’ run to the title.

In four seasons as a Terrier, ERod had 42 goals and 79 assists for 121 points. As a senior, he scored 61 points (21G,40A)—second in D1—and, with Jack Eichel and Danny O’Regan, formed the nation’s highest scoring forward line.

Undrafted, Rodrigues signed with Buffalo in 2015 and after stints with the Sabres, Pittsburgh and Colorado, he signed a four-year $12 million contract with Florida last summer.

Evan met his wife, Christina, while at BU. The have three children.

BU has had four Cup winners in the past seven years: Alex Chiasson in 2018 with Washington, Kevin Shattenkirk in 2020 with Tampa Bay, Eichel in 2023 with Vegas, and Rodrigues

Doug Friedman, captain of BU's 1994 national finalist squad and for the past three seasons the Terriers' Director of Hockey Operations, has been named head hockey coach of the new Division III program at Western Connecticut University.

He'll coach the school's club team during the upcoming season while recruiting and preparing for the varsity to make its debut in 2025-2026.

A Terrier teammate of head coach Jay Pandolfo in the mid '90s, Friedman assumed the DHO position at BU in 2021, assisting first Albie O'Connell and then Pandolfo as the Terriers reached the Frozen Four the past two seasons. His responsibilities included coaching on ice at practice and on the bench during games, overseeing recruitment of student-athletes and team academics, coordinating community service and fundraising activities, and managing the budget.

Following his four seasons as a BU forward that included three trips to the Frozen Four, Friedman, a Quebec Nordiques draft pick, played seven professional seasons, including stints with Edmonton and Nashville.

BU has now listed the DHO opening on its HR site to find a replacement for Friedman.
