Poll Story; SNL; Where are they now?; Goalie of the Week for Shanahan

 

Terriers remained in the #3 spot in both national polls.

In the USCHO Division 1 poll, the top four of Denver, BC, BU and Michigan State remained intact while North Dakota jumped over Minnesota into the #5 spot after the Gophers lost in OT to Omaha. Wisconsin, previously #9, fell to #16 after being upset by Lindenwood.

Maine jumped over Michigan into the #9 spot. Providence and UMass each fell one slot to #14 and #15 respectively after the Friars lost to North Dakota in the Hall of Fame game and the Minutemen dropped an OT contest to Omaha in the Ice Breaker.


The USA Hockey/The Rink Live poll has the same top six teams but has Cornell #7 ahead of Quinnipiac and Michigan #9 ahead of Maine. With Northeastern at #19, Hockey East has six schools in the top 20.  

BU remains at #4 in John Buccigross’ rankings  and #3 in the Everything College Hockey ranking


SNL (Saturday Night Leftovers)

►Freshmen Cole Hutson and Cole Eiserman combined for a highlight reel power-play goal and this dynamic duo, who have been teammates at the NTDP the past two seaspms, have already been dubbed “the Cole Train” by BU broadcast analyst Mark Linehan. Expect to see those names together in box scores frequently. 

►Defending the House: With Friday's home win, BU improved its record at Agganis Arena since Jay Pandolfo became head coach to 30-5-0. Of the five losses, four were by a single goal and three came in overtime.  

Shane Lachance’s grandfather, legendary head coach Jack Parker, tops the list with 897 wins over a 40-year career. In his decade behind the BU bench, Jack Kelley mentored the Terriers to 210 wins.

►Junior wing Devin Kaplan was this week’s guest interview on BU TV’s Live With Ty, hosted by BU soccer standout Tyler Johnson.

 

►FloHockey's list of "25 Most Intriguing Freshmen in College Hockey" includes four Terriers: Cole Eiserman, Cole Hutson, Sascha Boumedienne and Alex Zetterberg.

►Be sure to visit the Agganis Arena display of active NHL players’ sweaters where the newest addition is Macklin Celebrini’s teal blue Sharks #71. He became the 95th Terrier to play in the NHL.

UPDATE-

In the battle between two-time All-American BU defensemen, Matt Grzelcyk with two assists, came out on top as Pittsburgh defeated Montreal, 6-3. However, Lane Hutson earned some praise, pre-game, from Pens' coach--and former Terrier captain--Mike Sullivan:

Wondering where former Terriers are playing now? Did you know that four Terriers—Brandon Yip, Doyle Somerby, Danny O’Regan and Adam Clendening—are teammates on Kulan Red Star in the KHL? Yip has been captain for several years. Elite Prospects has a page listing currently active, as well as future players, for each D1 school. The Terriers list includes 81 skaters and nine goalies. The page is also shown in our sidebar under links. 

As of this morning, Jack Eichel is the NHL points leader with 1-6-7 and Lane Hutson is tied for the assists leader among defensemen with four. Eichel earned the NHL's third star of the week.

►Hutson has recorded 6 points in his first five NHL games, including a multipoint game in two of his three games this season.

In Friday's 4-1 Montreal win over Ottawa, Hutson had a pair of memorable encounters with Brady Tkachuk.

And for all the doubters (not Terrier fans, of course)...

Joel Farabee notched his first goal of the season in the Flyers’ 6-3 loss to the Blackhawks.  

Belle Fraser, the top-notch beat reporter for the Boston Hockey Blog/DFP the past two seasons, now holds the same job at the Salt Lake City Tribune, covering the recently relocated Utah Hockey Club. A native New Yorker, she shared with her new audience the story of how she fell in love with hockey.


Women's Team


Senior netminder Callie Shanahan has been named the Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week after her 25-save shutout of cross-town rival Northeastern. It was the Michigan native's fourth career shutout and marked the second time she was won Hockey East GOTW honors.
