Parker returns for Ice Breaker Tournament


The Boston Hockey Blog reports that longtime BU Head Coach Jack Parker has received medical clearance to resume his coaching duties at the Warrior Ice Breaker Tournament in St. Louis, where the Terriers open their season on Friday and Sunday. Parker had been recovering from bypass surgery. While there is no broadcast or cable coverage of the Ice Breaker, there will be pay-per-view Webcasts of the tournament, presented by Hockey Prime Time. Cost is $9.95 for all four games. Click here to register. Hockey Prime Time will also feature live blogging during the games by Justin Bourne.

We’ll have further details on Friday about radio broadcasts and Webcast of the tournament, as well as game notes.

USCHO has begun its series of conference previews, beginning with the WCHA followed by the ECAC, Atlantic Hockey, and the CCHA. The Hockey East preview appears on Friday.

Looking back
It appears that former BU captain John McCarthy will be on the San Jose Sharks’ opening night roster. With Matt Gilroy beginning his second season with the Rangers, both co-captain of the 2008-09 national champions, will start the season in the NHL. Former Terrier Sean Sullivan was among the last cuts made by the Sharks and will begin the season with AHL Worcester.

Former Terrier defenseman Jakabs Redlihs, along with brother Krisjanis and Mikelis, is skating in his native Latvia for Dynamo Riga, which lost to the Phoenix Coyotes, 3-1, in an exhibition game on Wednesday.

Hockeysfuture.com previews the Lake Erie Monsters’ season. The AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche has four former Terriers on the current player roster to begin the season: Colby Cohen, Kevin Shattenkirk, Zach Cohen, Dave van der Gulik.

Looking ahead
The Youngstown Phantoms’ Web site has more information on Matt O’Connor being named USHL goalie of the week.

The Cedar Rapids Roughriders site features video clips of each player on the roster, including 2011 BU recruit Cason Hohmann and 2014 recruit Anthony DeAngelo.
