Sunday Linkorama: NHL camps; Scarlet Key recipient; Recruits finding the net; Eisy and Lachance face off

 

In addition, a pair of 2027 recruits Alessandro Di Iola (CBJ) and Liam Lefebrve (LAK) are at training camps. Neither is included in the chart because they have not yet signed national letters of intent (NLOI). Brady Knowling, also a 2027 recruit, has signed.

Mick Frechette, an assistant captain this season, is the first Men’s hockey player to be inducted into the Scarlet Key Honor Society since goalie Anthony Moccia in 2014, per our friend, BU Hockey Stats.

The senior defenseman, who came to BU directly from prep school, was captain and team MVP for Dan Ronan's Dexter Southfield team in 2022-23.

Looking ahead

2027 recruit Rian Chudzinski scored a pair of goals, including the overtime game-winner, as Moncton edged Halifax, 6-5. The 6'1" right wing, also a Dexter Southfield product, has four points in two games, since returning from Anaheim Ducks rookie camp. A third-round pick in 2026, Chudzinski had a 21-17-38 scoring line for the Wildcats last season.  

After setting up 2027 recruit James Scantlebury with a goalmouth pass for his first QMJHL tally, Carter Meyer notched his own first goal, scoring from the slot, to give Quebec a 2-1 lead over Chicoutimi. (Game in progress)

UPDATE: Meyer and Scantlebury were the first and second stars in a 5-2 Quebec win. Meyer finished with a goal and three assists (including on both Scantlebury goals). Scantlebury's second goal of the contest proved the game-winner and he also contributed a helper. 

In his first QJMHL game, 2028 recruit Andrei Nikolayev stopped 37 in Victoriaville's 4-3 loss to Val d'Or.  The Tigers were outshot 2-1, but the 6'5" Moscow native kept his team in the game with big saves including on a 3-on-1.

2027 recruits Meyer and Jamie Glance are among the first six players chosen for next month's QMJHL Prospects Game. Both players are in their first QMJHL season, Meyer with Quebec and Glance with St. John's, after playing for the NTDP U18s last season.  
 
TSN's Craig Button has ranked Meyer #3 for the 2027 NHL Entry Draft, while Glance has been slotted as a late first-round pick in multiple rankings.

2027 or 2028 recruit Sam Pandolfo scored his third goal in three games for the NTDP U18s om a 6-3 loss to the TriCity Storm.   

Looking back

Shane Lachance, who is in his second Devils' main camp, spoke with NHLcom Prospect Notebook about his first pro season. 

“A learning experience last year. It was double the games I played coming out of college. That was the first thing,” he said. “It was getting used to that and making sure you’re consistent and coming ready to play every night. I think once you get that down it makes the game a little bit easier.” 

He made his NHL debut last year against Washington in November.

“I just remember lining up against Alex Ovechkin,” he laughed. “After that I blacked out. It was fun and the guys were great with me. It’s motivation for getting back up there.”

Cole Eiserman's "no-timer" gave the Islanders an early lead, but the Devils rallied for a 2-1 exhibition game win. Lachance skated on New Jersey's fourth line. 

Women's Team 

Former Terrier captain and U.S. Olympian Jesse Compher signed with the PWHL's Detroit expansion franchise this past summer.

UPDATED Harvey heads 2026-27 Leadership Team; HEA Coaches and Media Polls

Senior wing Jack Harvey has been named captain of the 2026-27 Terriers. He’ll be assisted by seniors Aiden Celebrini and Mick Frechette and juniors Kamil Bednarik and Nick Roukounakis. The Stacy, Minnesota, native, who was an assistant captain last season, succeeds Gavin McCarthy.  

Harvey, who is BU’s top returning scorer with 21 points, is coming off a career-best in goals (13) in 2025-26, which included four power-play tallies and three short-handers. He has produced 63 points (31G,32A) in 96 career games. 

Celebrini and Frechette were paired on defense for most of last season. Celebrini has 21 points (3G, 18A) in 102 career games. Frechette who also saw action at forward, scored his first collegiate goal last year and has five career points.

Bednarik, one of the Terriers’ top penalty killers, had a 5-11-16 scoring line last season and has 35 career points. He also skated for Team USA in the 2026 World Junior Championships.

Despite missing most of first semester last season, Roukounakis contributed five goals and a pair of assists in 25 games.

Harvey is just the second Minnesotan to captain the Terriers and first since Chris Connolly (2010-11, 2011-12). H/T to BU Hockey Stats.

Polls

Conference coaches' poll has BU third (with two first-place votes), behind Providence and UMass and just ahead of BC by one vote.  

►The Hockey East preseason media poll starts BU in the middle of the pack at #5. 

►Sports Illustrated has a more optimistic outlook for BU, suggesting that adding a highly-talented freshman class to anticipated step-ups from sophomores like Tynan Lawrence and Ryder Ritchie and an improved defense in front of Mikhail Yegorov will enable the Terriers to challenge for a Hockey East title.

►Everything College Hockey's preseason national poll slots the Terriers at #12.  This ranking has Michigan State, Michigan, Denver, North Dakota and Minnesota-Duluth as its top five.   

Looking ahead

FloHockey.tv's examination of 10 prospects to watch in the QMJHL this season features three 2027 BU recruits--Carter Meyer, Jamie Glance and Liam Lefebrve--and a defenseman, Malik L'Italien, reportedly on the Terriers' radar.

Lefebrve's strong performance in the Rookie Faceoff has earned him a roster spot at the Kings' main camp which begins this Friday.

“I think you can project that one a few years from now, I think you’ve got a heck of a player,” Los Angeles Head Coach Andrew Lord said. “The size, some of the craft around the net, some of the small board plays and then obviously the compete. He’s into it. Not just the fight – the fight was awesome – but aside from that, just a lot of chippyness, a lot of second efforts, a lot of puck protection, a lot of net front battles. Lots of good signs.” 

Looking back

Minnesota Head Coach John Hynes, entering his fourth season behind the Wild's bench, has had his contract extended for "multiple years." No details were made available. 

Hynes previously had a pair of four-year stints as head coach for Nashville and New Jersey. A member of the Terriers' 1995 national champions, the Rhode Island native began his coaching career as a graduate assistant under Jack Parker after an injury ended his playing career.

Three Terriers found the scoresheet in the Devils' 4-3 shootout win against the Islanders in a Rookie Showcase game. Shane Lachance (#20) scored in regulation and Jeremy Wilmer fired the shootout winner. Cole Eiserman found the net for the Isles.

►Two days earlier, Eiserman scored an extra-attacker goal to tie the score, then notched the overtime game-winner as the Islanders rallied past the Devils, 5-4.  

Womens' Team

Terriers are slotted at #4 in the pre-season Coaches' Poll. BU opens its season on Sept. 26 hosting LIU.
