BU lets one slip away

Terrier let a 3-0 lead early in the third period slip away and had to settle for a 3-3 overtime time with Vermont at Agganis Arena. Freshman Sahir Gill (photo) had a hand in the first two Terrier scores, with an unassisted goal late in the first period and then assisting on Adam Clendening’s goal early in the second.

Ben Rosen stretched the lead with a goal five and a half minutes into the third, but that’s when the Vermont comeback began with a goal just a minute later and then a pair within 32 seconds midway through the period. Terrier defensive lapses led to at least two of the goals.

The tie prevented the Terriers from moving into a third-place tie with Merrimack, which lost at Maine. BU now trails second-place BC by three points. Terriers need at least one point in tonight’s rematch with the Cats to clinch home ice for the Hockey East playoffs. Game time is 6:30 p.m. and it will again air on NESN.
