Another award announced in Tampa was the 2012 Hockey Humanitarian Award, which went to Yale’s Alecc Hughes, who was recognized for her extraordinary efforts to save the life of former teammate Mandi Schwartz, as well as the lives of others battling cancer. For the past two years, Hughes has organized a "White Out For Mandi" fundraiser at Yale's Ingalls Rink; the first raised over $20,000 to help the Schwartz family pay for medical expenses.
