Terriers take down #1, again UPDATED

Scoring the game’s first three goals, BU held on for a 3-2 win against top-ranked New Hampshire, knocking off a #1 team for the second time in seven days. Last Friday, Terriers doubled up then-#1 BC, 4-2.

Captain Wade Megan’s ninth goal, converting the rebound of a Matt Grzelcyk shot, produced a first-period lead. Junior Sahir Gill and freshman Sam Kurker added to the lead in the second period before UNH got on the board on a power play goal by Kevin Goumas. The Wildcats’ John Henrion narrowed the lead to one midway through the final period, but Matt O’Connor, who stopped 31 shots including 21 in the final two periods, closed the door to seal the win.

BU has a 12-10-5 record at the Whittemore Center since the building opened in 1995-96. No other Hockey East team has a winning percentage on UNH's home ice.

Cason Hohmann assisted on BU’s second goal and has a team-leading 16 points, while Megan (photo), who earned first-star honors, has 15.

Matt Nieto nearly restored a three-goal lead late in the second, but caught iron for the second time in a week.

Terriers won 31 of 57 faceoffs and killed eight of nine power plays
